This American Farm Works 0.10 Joule 5-Mile Solar-Powered Low Impedance Electric Fence Charger features built-in solar panels and a 6V battery, allowing you to store up to 2 weeks of energy for the fence. Delivering shocking power to your electric fence is easy when you attach a solar energizer to your line. Day or night, it delivers all the containment power you'll need for your livestock operation. There's no need to plug in this solar fence charger or lug batteries out into the field. Instead, this 0.10-joule output energizer electrifies up 5 miles of moderate to vegetation-free fencing. That's enough to keep your animals in and, when properly designed, small predators and wildlife out. Use it to manage horses, cattle, pigs and pets in the most remote locations with steel wire or poly fencing.

Q: We keep seeing 500 volts, even 800 volts output. Tractor Supply manager said we should see about 500 volts on the voltage tester. But, the output in the specs is 6 volts. I don't want my 30 lb dog to get 500 volts. Can anyone explain what's up?

- A: Yes, it can work. You’ll need to be thoughtful in the wire fencing you choose....such as some type of woven wire with insulators and posts that keep it off the ground and isolated from any metal that is not isolated from electrical ground. It’ll also depend on the breed of your dog and how motivated and driven it is to try to get out. My birdogs always figured a way to get out. This might work best as an augmented feature to some other type of primary fencing.5 years agoHelpful?

- A: Unfortunately, that means that there is power but it's not energizing at that time. Unless you are connected to electricity, it is intermittent so you need to check it a few times and wait for a small period to see if it energizes. Hopefully the grounding bar was installed properly and check the ground wire to make sure it is in tact. What I recommend is turning it off and walking the wire perimeter touching the wire from start to finish to make sure it is in tact. The unit also needs to charge for a day or so if you did have it off. I found that my first unit only lasted 2 years and I had to replace it because I leave it on all the time and it may have shorted or been zapped.5 years agoHelpful?

Purchased in Q1 2020 - installed and utilized unit off/on throughout 2020, very lightly. output is very weak, even for a sub 1-mile fence with nylon/steel type wire. feels like a rubber band lightly snapping the hand when contacted.deer nor chickens were not stopped by this fence.
unit failed one month past the 12 month warranty period. this is enough evidence for me to never purchase this brand again. will deconstruct the unit as TSC will not replace, and use as a very expensive science lesson for my kids in how PV and electricity works. perhaps will be able to identify the failure point and repair or scrap the unit alltogether.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Barely a signal on the meter. Up for three days and meticulously installed correctly. Their help number not any help. Don't buy you will be wasting your money.
