Hollow Wall Anchor

Walls without a stud behind them make hanging anything a challenge without the right fastener. Hollow wall anchors install into the wall and expand behind the surface, locking in place and giving a fastener a secure point to thread into. Tractor Supply carries a selection built for home improvement and professional work at every scale.

Versatile Fasteners Built for Hollow Walls

Hollow wall anchors are designed for surfaces where an empty space lies behind the wall face. A standard screw driven into these points has nothing solid to catch on to and pulls loose once any weight is applied. Hollow wall anchors solve that by expanding or locking into position behind the wall during installation, spreading the load across a wider area than the fastener head alone. The result is a stable mount that stays put under everyday stress.

Anchor type and diameter both affect the weight rating, so your selection needs to fit the job at hand before anything else:

Wall Material Options for Installation

Most installations that call for hollow wall anchors involve drywall, though several models also hold in plaster. Our plastic and nylon hollow anchors cover most interior wall types at lower load ratings. For solid masonry, a concrete anchor is the right tool – it is a separate product category and not interchangeable with standard hollow wall anchors for interior walls. Steel toggle bolts are the choice when your job calls for a higher weight limit.

Size Range for Light and Heavy Loads

Diameter determines how much contact an anchor makes inside the wall, and more contact generally means a higher load rating. Smaller anchors, such as those at 3/16 in., are suited for lightweight items, including picture frames and hooks. For shelf brackets, mirrors and similarly weighted tasks, anchors in the 3/8-in. to 1/2-in. range give the extra holding area the job demands. Our inventory spans that full diameter range, so both light-duty and heavier residential projects have a fit.

Find Hollow Wall Anchors at Tractor Supply

Not every wall gives you a stud to drive into, and hollow wall anchors fill that gap across a wide range of jobs. A correctly sized anchor keeps cabinets, brackets and fixtures in place without the fastener coming loose over time.
