Standlee Premium Western Forage Certified Straw Grab & Go Compressed Bale is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 168.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth the price I have purchased this before and it made a nice fluffy bed area for some small animals we had. This last purchase of 4 bales were a HUGE disappointment. It was like they had tiny pieces and straw dust, bottom of the barrel leftovers they compacted into bales. It barely covered an area that I had previously used the same straw for. It was my bad for opening and cutting the twine on all bales before spreading or I would have returned all of them. I am shy about buying this brand again. The straw is nothing like what is pictures which looks like actual long straw pieces. This company needs to concentrate on quality control.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT PRODUCT Purchased for muddy patches in back yard where standard poodle always runs. Works super well and is extremely easy to use. Can keep extra compact packages neatly in garage until needed to refresh.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Straw saved my life! We had a litter of NINE puppies and I was going through training pads at the rate of 100 pads every 4-5 days. I was spending way too much time cleaning up and my garbage toter was full 2 days after being picked up! I was at TSC picking up more pads when I mentioned what I was dealing with. Because the puppies were already 5-6 weeks old, and were in an enclosure on our back patio, a TSC employee suggested straw. I instantly could see myself wrestling a huge bale of straw, wondering how I would contain it after I cut the staps, and shared my thoughts with the employee. They said "We can fix that!" I followed them over to this compacted bale. It was reasonably priced, small enough for me to handle, packaged with heavy duty plastic and a built in handle! Perfect!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Natural bedding Good cheap bedding. It works well for when you want to have a natural bedding.

2 wks ago covered veggie garden with your comp hay as a mulch. it is sprouting green grass over the entire garden! used reg straw other yrs without problem. will the grass (wheat or barley) return in the spring or will CT winter kill it

Asked by: flywayridge
Thank you for your comment. Standlee’s straw is Certified weed free, however it is not guaranteed seed free. Some of the seeds from the wheat/barley plant can be in the compressed straw bales, therefore there is a possibility that you will have wheat or barley sprouts in the location in which the straw is spread. There is a possibility that it could return in the spring, it all is based on the product and how harsh the winter is. Thank you

CAN I USE THIS PRODUCT TO PLANT VEGETABLES IN? I AM INTERESTED IN MAKING A "STRAW GARDEN"

I put this straw down in the field as a mulch and allowed my chickens to scratch through it over the winter. I plan on growing both barley and sorghum in that location this spring. Should I be concerned with Sencor carryover affecting those cover crops?

Asked by: stephaniecrocker

Can this be used in a garden pond? Assuming it’s barley straw?

Asked by: Gypsy13
The Standlee Straw can be either Wheat or Barley. Standlee Premium Western Forage’s main crop that we use for our straw is Barley, as Wheat is not a crop that is grown in large quantities in Idaho. We do not mix the products, it is either Barley or Wheat Straw that is in the bales, we manufacture one product at a time and ship out that product. The product is not labeled as when the product is stored, it is not separated by barley or wheat, simply by straw.

I see that this is not supposed to be fed but I have read on several different websites that this is product is indeed good for donkeys, is that correct?

Asked by: Big Daddy J
Thank you for your inquiry. The Standlee Straw is safe for donkey’s consumption. An equine’s digestive system is much different in how they break down feed and process it than a donkey. Straw in an equines diet can cause compaction, therefore we do not recommend it be used for horses. The main crop that we use for our straw is Barley, as Wheat is not a crop that is grown in large quantities in Idaho. We do not mix the products, it is either Barley or Wheat Straw that is in the bales, we manufacture one product at a time and ship out that product. Wheat straw is very fibrous and has lower energy values. Thank you

Is this straw mostly whole or is it chopped to shorter pieces?

Asked by: fish_4_all
Thank you for your inquiry. When we manufacture the Compressed and Grab and Go bales, we use a 4’ x 4’ x 8’ bale of forage, run it through a machine that slices it horizontally twice and then pushes it across the scale, compresses it and bands it. Thank you
