Straw was brittle, dry and dusty. I’ve purchased before and it was not like this.

Good quality,, But... Small barrel of straw $ is a little high.

We use this for our free-range chickens during the winter to give them more space to scratch and roam beyond their coop and run area, where there is no coverage from the snow. The chickens typically won't leave the coop and run area unless we put this down. It makes their days a little better and helps to keep their feet dry and a little warmer. We snowblow an area and path for them to roam, and then put this down. The only downside is affordability. I wish it were a little lower in price per square footage. We can get 4'x4' round hay bales that provide so much more square footage for a much more affordable price, but I cannot always buy them unless I have the trailer, and therefore have to resort to purchasing this instead. However, I highly recommend using straw/hay bedding during the winter to offer protection from the snow. Yes, you have to put more out when it snows again, but it's well worth not having your chickens cooped up all day, every day during the winter. Our chickens are much happier since we started using this.
