Scratch Grains
Treat your flock to the goodness and fun of Purina Scratch Grains Premium Poultry Grains. This blend of high-quality grains encourages natural pecking, foraging, and feeding instincts. Feed it to adult chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys as a complement to complete feeds. Scatter the scratch grains whiles birds are foraging or to train birds to come back to the coop at night. Use only as directed.
- Designed to supplement your flock's complete diet, such as Purina Layena or Purina Flock Raiser
- Encourages instinctive behaviors: Made to support instinctive pecking and scratching behavior
- Backyard happiness: Keeps your flock entertained and fun to watch
- Suitable supplementary feed for adult chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys
- Recommended use: Scatter the scratch grains whiles birds are foraging or to train birds to come back to the coop at night
- Limit to about 2 tablespoons of scratch per day
- Feeding too much scratch will dilute the feed intake of complete feeds, thus reducing the bird's nutritional intake and overall performance
*Labeling requirements vary from state to state. For an accurate list of ingredients and guaranteed analysis in your region, please refer to the label affixed to the feed product. Manufactured in the United States with globally sourced ingredients.

Q: Does this contain soy? Same with the layer crumbles.
4 years ago- A: Purina Scratch Grains is a combination of 3 of these 5 grains - oats, corn, barley, wheat, or milo, so it does not contain soy. It is a treat, it is not a balanced feed. It should not be more than 10% of the chickens diet. Purina Layena Crumbles does contain soy.4 years agoHelpful?
Q: Why do you say crumbles are better for adult brahmas than pellets? I thought there is less feed waste with pellets?
4 years ago- A: Thank you for your question. Please contact Purina's customer service at 800-227-8941 for further assistance with this inquiry.4 years agoHelpful?
Q: What is better for adult Brahma chickens. Crumbles or pellets
4 years ago- A: Crumble would be the best choice.4 years agoHelpful?
Q: what exactly are the ingredients
5 years ago- A: They are a variety of grain seeds - corn, oat, wheat, barley and milo. I have noticed that there doesn't seem to be a set mixture and it changes during the year, I am assuming, based on the growing season of the various grains. Each bag is different although corn seems to comprise 50% or more of the mixture and milo also seems to be fairly popular as well. My hens and my goats love it, but I don't use it as their sole nutrition source. The goats get lots of different grasses and legumes and the hens get worms and sunflower seeds and layer pellets. But the Purina Scratch is a VERY popular and tasty supplement treat to the staple foods across the farm.5 years agoHelpful?
Q: Some folks are concerned about GMO and non GMO, where does this product fall in that classification
7 years ago- A: Thanks for choosing Purina. The regular Purina scratch grains will contain GMO grain sources. Since one ingredient is cracked corn and this is not certified as organic, the majority of the corn will be GMO derived. We just do not know to what percentage. If you are seeking a Non-GMO grain source, all of our Organic Purina Poultry products would fall into that category. Let us know if you have any additional questions.7 years agoHelpful?
Q: What's in it?? Wheat? Barley? Sunflower seeds? Or just milo & cracked corn? Anybody got a good photo of the stuff?
7 years ago- A: Thanks for your question and choosing Purina. The scratch grains are intended to be used as a supplement. They are typically comprised of 3 of the following 5 grain sources: cracked corn, oat, wheat, barley, and milo. This is not a fixed formula, meaning you may have a different combination with different production dates. In some states we are required to list the individual grains and you will find those on the ingredient listing on the tag stitched into the bottom of the bag. Generally, cracked corn will always be one of them and then an additional two others of those listed above.7 years agoHelpful?
Q: our chickens are 3 months old can we give them scratch feed
8 years ago- A: Thanks for choosing Purina. We do not suggest the young chicks have access to the grains until they have reached maturity, or at least 16 weeks of age. If fed earlier, they will eat more of the scratch and not enough of the formulated product. When supplying the scratch grains, be certain to have a grit source supplied as well. If they are only eating our formulated products, there is no need for grit.8 years agoHelpful?
