Q&As

1 - 10 of 32 Questions

Q: Why does the description only show mature height of 30'? Shouldn't it be up to 60'?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi. Great question. A Green Giant’s height is greatly impacted by weather conditions. An average mature is 30-40 feet, but some areas could see growth of the 60 feet as you mentioned. Its mature height is listed at 30 feet because this is what we see majority of the time with the average homeowner’s experience. This is based largely on our family’s 50+ years of experience.

Q: how tall is actual plant number3 green giant arborvitae hot counting pot height

1 Answer
  • A: Hi, Gary. This is a great question. The height will fluctuate some based off of time we are at in growing season. In the spring they will be shorter than they are in the fall, as in the fall they have had more of a growth season. They range between 30-36 inches during these seasons.

Q: Do you sell any taller than 2-3'? Maybe 5 -6' ?

1 Answer
  • A: Great question. Honestly, we sell these faster than we can grow them. On occasion we do have some #5 and #7 sizes; however, they are sold directly to Tractor Supply brick and mortar locations in their spring and fall shipments. Offering online to customers for Tractor Supply would put us in an inevitable situation of always being out of stock. We hope this helps explain where the larger sizes of arborvitae are.

Q: Are they good for shade?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi. Green Giant Arborvitae’s are not ideal for shade since they do not grow well in shade. They need full sun (6+ hours). While they can tolerate partial shade (3-4 hours of sun), they may become sparse, grow slowly, and lose their dense, bushy shape.

Q: are they deer resistant

1 Answer
  • A: Hello. Green Giant Arborvitae are generally considered deer-resistant, but not entirely deer-proof. The only reports of deers feeding on them have been babies in food scarce areas. Another complaint was damage done by a buck who was rubbing their antlers on the arborvitae. These reports have been very few and, in my own yard which is very rural, they have never been damaged by deer. This was a great question!

Q: Wouldthese make a good privacy screen for a hunting food plot in the woods? Wanting to hide it from the view from the roadway

1 Answer
  • A: Hi! Yes, these can be good for privacy. For a living privacy screen or hedge, a windbreak, or a snow break, position Green Giants 5-6 feet apart. Or better yet for a unique green giant hedge, plant them in two rows, 4 feet apart, with the trees staggered 8-15 feet apart within each row.

1/2 the advertised size

The price is fair but if you order online just be prepared that when you get them they may be a lot smaller than advertised. These are advertised as 3 to 4 ft tall, I ordered 14 of them and almost every one is 2 ft tall, a few maybe 2 1/2 ft. I decided to take them anyway since I know they will grow fairly fast.

Stable trees little on the small side for 3’s

Trees were 3 gallon but a little on the small side. Overall all trees (25) in total are doing well after transplanting in sandy soil. Watered every day with a soaker hose. Tops turned yellow on some of the trees.

But the dust.

I purchased four emerald abrovite this spring. Planted following instructions. One of the four shows signs of life. The other three have bit the dust. Perhaps there is an incompatibility problem.

No, I do not recommend this product.
