This Perfect Plants 1 gal. LSU Purple Fig Tree was produced in 1991 after many trials and errors to perfect this succulent fig tree! Feast your taste buds on the deliciously lush purple ficus carica fig! Named after the iconic fig breeding program at the Louisiana State University that has been around since the 1950s.The LSU Fig tree features closed eye, medium-sized fruit with white juicy flesh, and strawberry colored insides with high sugar content. This highly productive fig cultivar is a vigorous grower with an upright habitat. The dark purple fresh figs taste deliciously sweet and are sure to invigorate your senses. It's best grown in USDA hardiness zones 7-10.

  • LSU Purple Fig is exceptionally pest and disease resistant and is also self-pollinating
  • Grow this fast growing fig tree in USDA growing zones 7-10 across the United States; if you are in an exceptionally cold area, you may want to winter protect this fruit tree by planting it in a container on your patio
  • Best time to plant a fig is in early spring so it has the whole growing season to establish; you can even grow this fig tree in a container if limited in space; LSU fig will set fruit in the first year of planting
  • Other planting care instructions include: a 2-3 in. layer of mulch or organic matter will help retain moisture and save the young trees from winter frosts; during the growing season, a slow release fertilizer at the top of the root ball will help the fruit
  • LSU fig tree height can grow up to 8-10 ft. tall and wide; perfect for organic gardeners looking for small trees in their landscape; it is a deciduous plant and tree meaning it loses its leaves during the winter months
  • Best grown in USDA Hardiness Zones 7-10
  • Fig tree does not ship to AK, AZ, CA or HI
  • Fig variety is heat tolerant and prefers full sun and loamy, well-drained soil
  • Purple fig fruit will begin to ripen in July and continue through frost

I expected better condition of product.

The tree arrived half dead looking with leaves burnt, dead leafs on the plant still, and roots exposed and completely root bound. For I expect my tree to atleast not have dead leafs and half the leafs to NOT be burnt from not being watered. This was long term lack of water, not from 2 days of shipping. The soil the tree is in won't even hold water, I watered it as soon as I got it and all the water immediately came out the bottom. Was this really the best tree the employee at tractor supply could pick for me? Surely there could have been some better looking trees to send me. I'm deeply dissapointed that I have to nurse this tree back to health after spending for ONE TREE that obviously hasn't been taken care of. I will add photos if it will let me, right now it won't let me.

No, I do not recommend this product.
