The Italian Cypress tree (Cupressus sempervirens) also known as the Tuscan Cypress, takes on a narrow, columnar form and tidy, well-groomed appearance without any pruning. This makes it a unique low maintenance evergreen. This cypress evergreen tree features exceptionally dense blue-green foliage with scale-like leaves that lend a very fine texture to any landscape setting. It is well suited to topiaries, large pots or containers, entryways or anywhere you desire to have vertical appeal. The Italian cypress tree is adaptable to many settings and will prove to be a plant that grows very tall in a short time and can handle hot, dry weather. The Italian cypress plant can also enhance curb appeal in your landscape. At times the tall height of this tree can be challenging to fit within residential landscapes. The Italian Cypress tree is best suited for framing, as a strong accent around large buildings, or informal landscape. It is a great choice for a wind blocking tree and is long living! Never prune the height of your Italian Cypress tree until it reaches your desired height. Don't fret, it establishes quickly and you will have a tall tree in no time! The fast growth rate is ideal if you are looking for tree height fast. • The Italian Cypress Tree is known for its tall, slender shape. At full size, one of these cypress trees can grow anywhere from 30 to 40 feet, but often only 3 to 5 feet wide.
  • Italian cypress roots travel deep into the ground, but are not necessarily invasive. Italian cypress trees can be planted close to your home as they are unlikely to cause foundation problems. Their roots will travel quite deep, but not exceedingly wide.
  • While cypress trees are not dangerous for humans to be around, the same is not true for pets. The Italian cypress is known to be highly poisonous to dogs and horses. It may be worthwhile to consider another type of tree if you have any outdoor pets.
  • Italian cypress trees are not usually eaten by deer or any other outdoor creatures, but they do not deter deer from approaching a property, like a true deer resistant tree or shrub. Be sure to check out some of our other deer resistant shrubs to better protect your plants.
  • The Blue Italian Cypress grows and thrives in acidic, well-drained soil with full sun. The Mediterranean cypress can tolerate a wide range of soil types.
  • Plant Italian Cypress in the United States Department of Agriculture growing zones 7-10. This tall screen tree cannot withstand freezing temperatures for too long. It will turn the gray green leaves brown and can kill the tall narrow tree.

Italian Cypress Pines

The price for the 1-2’ cypress pines is competitive and the plants arrive healthy. However, the nursery does not sufficiently protect the plants they ship. The supplier needs to seriously up their packing game. Simple cardboard dividers would make all the difference between broken trunks and intact plants.
