The Windmill Palm features lush, green fronds that fan out from its branches with oblong leaves. It may lose its dark green color in cold weather. Perfect for planting around your pool and can be grown in a variety of locations. While it has no edible fruit, it does flower and bloom. This windmill tree produces yellow bushy, cascading flowers on both male and female flowering plants. These yellow flowers appear higher up the trunk of the ornamental tree near the hairy black fibers from old leaf sheaths on growing palm trees. It is very easy to grow and the fan shaped, dark green foliage brings an instant tropical vibe to any landscape, even colder climates. Q: Is this a good Palm to plant poolside in southern Louisiana? Does it drop debris or make berries or flowers that would be a nuisance by pool? Also does it tolerate freezes and partial sun (morning) with shade the rest of day?

A: We would recommend about 10 feet away from the pool barring some kind of container to place it in. In regards to anything that could come off of it, there shouldn't be anything that sheds to the point of being a nuisance. As for the light, these can withstand freezing temperatures in small doses, however they usually need full sun to thrive.
