Q: I have a 28 year old mare that colics and a 7 year old gelding that also colics at times. Would this feed benefit them? They are mild cases when they do. They eat mostly grass and hay. I feed nutrena maintenance now.

Q: Im getting a mare who’s severely overweight, limiting hay access and going on a dry lot. I feed supplements so trying to find a grain to give her thats not high in sugar as we suspect she may be trying to founder. Is this a good fit for her?

1 Answer
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry - SafeChoice Special Care could be an option, but you may want to consider a ration balancer such as Empower Topline Balance https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/nutrena-empower-balance-grass-formula-horse-supplement-40-lb - this will have a lower feeding rate, thus less calories. It is nutrient dense 1-2 pounds/day will provide her requirements.
