Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Satisfied with safe choice senior I switched my horses over to safe choice senior two weeks ago. I have a 6 year-old gelding and a 12 year old mare. I wanted a safe feed they both can be on. My mare needs a low starch and sugar, seeing this only has 4% sugar was wonderful. Also wanted a feed to keep my young man developing the way that he should and filling out. Over the past two weeks I’ve seen beautiful results in quality of their coats skin and overall performance. I’m very excited to see good results in A short period of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My senior gelding My gelding is 25 years old, and wasn't holding his weight well. I started him on this product in early summer (2019) and he's doing well with it. His weight has balanced and he digests it well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love Nutrena I switched from Purina to Nutrena years ago. My animals were leaving lots of their feed and sometime just didn't care to eat - now NO problem they gobble it up and hardly leave any leftovers. I also noticed their coats getting better and more energy! My horses are all seniors so feed DOES make a difference!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great feed! I have been feeding this feed to my 30 year old Quarter horse mare for 6 years. I am very pleased with her health. She can no longer eat grass or hay. I feed with alfalfa cubes soaked twice daily and her body weight, feet and coat are all great! Thank you for providing such a good product.

I just started senior with bad topline on this feed and wondered how long till I'll see a difference in his topline. He'd been on 4 qts of producer pride sweet feed so I know that this feed is much better! Also, can I feed him less b/c nutrena is so much

Asked by: Mustangirl6
Hello, Thanks for the question, and we're excited for you to see results in your horse's topline! It will take about 60 days to see an improvement, so stick with it! Be sure to take some "before" pictures, to help you see the progress. In regards to how much to feed, please look at the feeding directions chart on the tag attached to the bag, and feed your horse the correct amount for his activity level and body weight (or you can use the feeding rate calculator found here for easy math: We suggest weighing how much fits in your scoop, as every scoop can vary - and the SafeChoice Senior won't weigh the same per quart as the previous feed you were using did, either - it's not just about volume, you need to know the actual weight of the feed being given per day. Let us know how he does!

I have a 38 year old that has cushings, but needs to gain weight. Would this be an ideal food for him to eat, or do you all have another product that would work better?

Asked by: taylor48
Hello, Thanks for the question. Yes, you can feed the SafeChoice Senior horse feed to your horse - it will suit his needs perfectly. You will want to feed according to the directions for his body weight and activity level, and ensure you weigh how much is in your scoop that you feed with to ensure the proper number of pounds is being fed per day. If you have the ability to feed him the correct daily total across multiple meals, this will aid in keeping the per-meal starch and sugar intakes lower, which can help with management of his Cushings as well. So even if you can do three meals instead of two, that is helpful.

Hello! My senior horse has been on this feed for about 3 weeks and looks amazing! However it's a bit expensive and I'm wondering about your triumph senior. What are the disadvantages and advantages to triumph senior vs safechoice other than it's cheaper?

Asked by: Wondering0
Hello, Thanks for the question. SafeChoice Senior will have all the advantages over the Triumph Senior - it is higher in fat, contains our proprietary Nutri-Bloom Technology, which improves fiber digestion up to 15% (i.e. they get more out of every bite of feed), has more guaranteed amino acids for better topline, and guaranteed levels of prebiotics and probiotics, as well as Omega 3 and 6 Fatty Acids. While you would save per bag with Triumph Senior, you would lose out on all those benefits that SafeChoice Senior offers - and you won't be able to get Triumph Senior at Tractor Supply, either. Hope that helps!

I have a 28 year old welsh Morgan that has IR. He is currently on rice bran and local grass hay. Starting to waste a lot of hay and thinking he is having issues chewing the hay. Is not losing weight yet. Is this a safe feed for him?

Asked by: ssanders45
Hello, Thanks for the question. We'd recommend getting a veterinarian or equine dentist out to visit with you and check your pony's teeth for you. They may say it's time for a complete feed like SafeChoice Senior - which is the perfect feed for him to be given - or they may be able to float his teeth to remove some points and return him to normal hay consumption. If you do decide to use the SafeChoice Senior, just follow the feeding directions for his weight and activity level, and split his food across 2 or more feedings per day to keep the starch and sugar intake per meal lower. You can use the handy feeding rate calculator on the SafeChoice Senior page on our website to figure out how much he would need per day: Hope that helps - please let us know if you have any further questions!
