Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old barn turned garage Our first experience shopping Tractor Supply online resulted in buying 5 gal. Majic Town & Country paint. We got it on sale, held for in store pickup at Prescott WI. It did a great job with one coat covering our garage which was once a barn 80 yrs ago. The stuccoed exterior now looks super clean and fresh as the photos show!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product. Great price. I used this to paint a two level barn that someone had previously painted turquoise. Yep, turquoise. Used an airless sprayer and it covered the siding on 2nd level w/ one coat, and the concrete block 1st level w/ two coats. Bought this because it was cheap and I planned to re-side the barn later anyway. Looks so good now I don't think I'm going to re-side. Great product performance and better price.

What would be the best paint to use on a metal pipe type fence - white? It has been painted before and not peeling, just fading. Need to go with the 5 gallon size. My location is Wichita, Kansas

Asked by: Rogeronthefarm
You bring up a good question as there are advantages, and equally opposite, disadvantages to each system being considered for metal pipe fencing. Latex Barn & Fence Paints are much better at color retention than are oil base coatings, but latex barn & fence paints really don't possess the strength and durability necessary for best protection on metal rails...Oil based alkyd products such as Majic Oil Base High Gloss Barn & Roof Paints are tough, hard & durable coatings, and will provide greater protection to the surface long after the color, and gloss, have begun to fade. From that perspective, the oil base Barn & Roof Paint will provide greater utility protection for the longer period of time.

Is this paint toxic to horses? Thinking of painting a fence, but concerned about their health should they decide to chew on it!

Asked by: EMCook
All Majic / Town&Country Brand products are non-toxic when dry, and safe for use around livestock.

Can this paint be sprayed on?

Asked by: Robertearl
Yes - absolutely. Airless spray application actually works best for this product. Product should be sprayed at approx. 1500+ lbs of pressure - with a .015 - .017 tip. Thinning is generally not required, nor recommended, for airless application - but if absolutely necessary, reduce - up to 5% - with clean water. Be aware that the proper curing of this product is temperature and humidity sensitive, and should only be applied when sustained surface temps are greater than 60 degrees F. - and relative humidity below 50%. This product should be applied at a rate not to exceed 300 square feet per gallon, and allow 8 hours to re-coat if necessary. Application in too cool of temperatures, and/or in too high humidity - or too heavy an application, and/or re-coating too soon will affect how soon this product will achieve maximum moisture resistance.

What is recommended as a primer to apply to wood privacy fencing that is over 6 years old, prior to applying this product? Would results be positive/acceptable using a roller versus sprayer?

Asked by: nmlluvr
Unfortunately, TSC does not offer a standard exterior wood primer (undercoater) – following proper surface preparation, the types of primer we would recommend for new wood (and seasoned pressure treated board) is an acrylic latex Multi-Purpose Primer (such as Bulls-Eye 123, Kilz Premium, etc.) – for weathered or gray wood, an oil/alkyd exterior wood undercoated would be the better choice (such as Zinsser Cover Stain). Application by brush, roll or spray will each be acceptable for use.

Can I use this to paint barn interior OSB wood board walls without having to prime it first?

Asked by: JEarl
Technically, T&C Barn Paint could adhere well to OSB (if not exposed to weather), but OSB is chock-full of tannin acids which will bleed through a latex paint in the form of a yellow or reddish stain (especially noticeable on white paints)...Second, since OSB is comprised of wood scraps, pieces and parts, when exposed to moisture - even in the form of humidity - can swell, and shrink, causing strands to lose adhesion to the host board, often times taking the paint with it... An oil based primer will help to limit the amount of expansion and contraction due to moisture absorption, and provide a more stable foundation for a successful paint app. There also is a probability of "bleed-through" if painting OSB without an appropriate primer.

Do you have to prime the fence prior to using this product. Have a fence that is 5 years old, and looking at painting it.

Asked by: Remington1
Yes. It is recommended to prime bare or exposed wood before painting it.

Town & Country Latex Flat Barn & Fence Paint is a good quality, economy priced, coating designed specifically for the project your are considering. If the wood is bare (new or previously painted), a primer is required.
