Q: Does the bulk head fitting have viton gasket?

1 Answer
  • A: Please see below statement from the manufacturer: "A bulkhead fitting, which is the standard fitting type we use in our tanks, consists of a “flange-like” piece with a gasket between it and the tank, is installed from inside the tank sticking out through the hole we cut in the tank surface. A large nut is screwed on the threads on the outside of the tube-like piece that is part of the flange piece sticking out from the inside of the tank. The nut tightened down on the outside of the tank tightens the flange piece on the inside of the tank flat against the wall of the tank pressing out the gasket to complete the bulkhead seal."

Good for my purposes

I bought this to put in a small enclosed trailer as a water supply to leave at our small cabin/weekender. It weighs about 580 pounds full and does not burden the trailer too much. The spigot is a standard 3/4 inch pipe thread on the inside. A previous poster likely had trouble finding a fit at tractor supply because most of their nylon fittings are an odd thread size. I brought a smaller tank with the same opening into the store and tried fittings until a fit was found with one that had female garden hose threads on the outside. After hauling it home and washing it out, I threaded a short garden hose with a rubber washer into it and have a nice gravity feed out of the trailer. The 65 gallons should last for three or four trips at least. It might pay to put a shut off in front of the hose connection sometime, but tying the hose to the top of the tank stops the flow just fine for now. Safety note: This tank must be securely strapped down around both grooves for transport. Ratcheting tie downs seem to work well.

Unconventional spigot

Just purchased but not used yet. The drain connection is a unique size and thread. Bigger than 1" and smaller than 1 1/4" with a fairly coarse thread that is not available in plumbing section of most home improvement stores. You may need to replace the whole drain connection depending on how you are going to drain the tank.
