I use several of these to keep tanks and barrels thawed in the winter. Uses a lot less energy than the bigger models, I figure about $20 month per heater at my electric rates. I use them in plastic containers without any problems. One 250-watt heater like this can keep a spot open on a 100 gallon plastic stock tank down to about 10F as long as not much wind.

Perfect for a 5 gallon poultry waterer

We have our waterer sitting on a heated base, but the temperatures here near Kansas City reached negative 20 degrees recently. The water in the bottom of the waterer was liquid but a frozen bridge formed up above preventing water from being accesssible to the chickens. This heater kept ALL 5 gallons melted. Well worth the $!

I had been buying these off a popular online venue, but the 150 watt kept quitting on me. They can look they same as these, but stopped working.
Was getting tired of hauling water to all my poultry, so took a chance on these from the store, and boy oh boy was I glad! We'd been hitting weather in the negatives for weeks, but these kept right on working! LOVE THEM
