Item Information

Most mowers at this price are made from flimsy stamped steel and bolted together. So if you're looking for the efficiencies of a zero-turn mower at a price that does not compromise on quality construction and quality of cut--turn to the Bad Boy MZ Magnum. With its all new, larger and stronger frame - sporting an even stronger 7-gauge all-steel, fabricated deck - the MZ Magnum is far more substantial in build quality than other mowers in this price range. You'll immediately appreciate the rock-solid, all-steel welded construction, powerful engine and 'too much fun to call it work' ride.

Bad Boy MZ Magnum 54 in. Zero-Turn Mower is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 642.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Built like a tank with excellent cut quality! I bought my MZ Magnum 48" since I was tired of belly slung mowers for my back yard. I've only got 9 hours on my machine so far but wow, what an excellent mowing machine. No problems or issues whatsoever. Cuts like a dream, super easy to work on with the lift up seat and foot plate. I should have bought a Bad Boy years ago. Cut quality is outstanding and the Kohler 725 runs perfectly. I'm 6'3" and the mower fits me perfectly. No need for adjustable bars. The seat is excellent for this price range and the mower just seems like it's built to last. The mower deck is ridiculously over built and massive. It will certainly outlast me. Controls are convenient and the fuel tank is huge. Uses less fuel for sure than my old belly slung tractor and battery access is simple. All in all I'd buy another one in a minute. I did research for months before pulling the plug and buying the Bad Boy MZ Magnum and I'm glad I made the purchase. Excellent mower overall.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Zero turn is my hero My mower is a beast I’ve only used it once but use it a couple hrs and no issues straight out of the crate. Tractor supply could’ve been more helpful in helping me understand the machine. They didn’t even have the courtesy to remove the tractor from the metal crate.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Caution: Very well built except the transaxles I really want to love this mower, but I'll let others describe the good things about this mower and describe one critically poor component that I feel you must know about: The two transaxles in this mower cannot be serviced; the oil and filter cannot be changed. In my experience this drastically reduces the duty cycle and lifetime of the mower. At 4 years of ownership and ~186 hours run-time, my right side transaxle died. And a single new transaxle is nearly 20% of the new cost of the entire mower. I have 3 acres of grass to cut and now I read in the Q&A here that the mower "is rated for 1.5 acres". That just seems terribly low for such a robustly built machine, but now I suspect why. The transaxles have inadequate cooling for only ~1.5 quarts of oil that can never be changed. I think instead of an "acres" rating, the mower should probably have an "hours" rating, i.e. don't use it for more than 45 min each time. Perhaps that would allow the trans time to cool. Other related cautions: - Don't push or pull (tow) anything with the mower. The transaxles are rated for a 900 Lb (total) machine and this mower weighs nearly 700. Add a 200 Lb rider and you're already at the limit. - Don't operate the drive levers quickly: the transaxles inner rotating parts are steel against aluminum and oil pressure spikes from fast accel/decel can dig chunks out of the internal aluminum pump/motor "center section" part and, since you can't change the oil or filter, the resulting contamination will eventually destroy the transaxle. Final notes: - The transaxles CAN be repaired, I did it myself but it was not simple. I suspect it would still be cheaper than buying a new one if you can find someone who can do it for you. - Many of the zero turn mowers that compete with the MZ Magnum use the same model transaxles. If anything I said here worries you, I'd recommend you buy a mower in the next price range up. Just make sure the transaxles are serviceable - that you can change both their oil and filters. Other than that, the mower is a very tough machine. Bad Boy did great, Hydro-Gear (the transaxle maker) not so much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great job Bad Boy!! Great speed & agility. Engine is poweful! I had a Cub Cadet, it was great, but after years of good use, it finally died. The Bad Boy is in another class. The difference is night and day..

My badboy developed a problem - it won't start. It appears to be in the interlock system. If you wiggle the right control arm a small amount, it will start but then you have to quickly release the brake. I need a wiring diagram.

Asked by: John0831
The wiring diagram is available in the owner's manual provided with the mower. The manuals are also available at You can also have your mower repaired by an authorized service location.
