Item Information

Most mowers at this price are made from flimsy stamped steel and bolted together. So if you're looking for the efficiencies of a zero-turn mower at a price that does not compromise on quality construction and quality of cut--turn to the Bad Boy MZ Magnum. With its all new, larger and stronger frame - sporting an even stronger 7-gauge all-steel, fabricated deck - the MZ Magnum is far more substantial in build quality than other mowers in this price range. You'll immediately appreciate the rock-solid, all-steel welded construction, powerful engine and 'too much fun to call it work' ride.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Cut Above all others! This has to be the most well built mower on the market at this price. I have used it for 6 hours so far and very impressed in the materials and workmanship! Great to see a US company stepping up and creating such a good product. Cut quality is top notch, I added a towing hitch to pull my sweeper, did not even feel that thing attached! Strong motor (Kohler), and responsive steering. Cannot wait till the spring! Geaux Tigers!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly like the description This was a great sale on a 54 inch zero turning radius lawnmower that we couldn’t pass up. Runs and handles perfectly

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Built like a tank with excellent cut quality! I bought my MZ Magnum 48" since I was tired of belly slung mowers for my back yard. I've only got 9 hours on my machine so far but wow, what an excellent mowing machine. No problems or issues whatsoever. Cuts like a dream, super easy to work on with the lift up seat and foot plate. I should have bought a Bad Boy years ago. Cut quality is outstanding and the Kohler 725 runs perfectly. I'm 6'3" and the mower fits me perfectly. No need for adjustable bars. The seat is excellent for this price range and the mower just seems like it's built to last. The mower deck is ridiculously over built and massive. It will certainly outlast me. Controls are convenient and the fuel tank is huge. Uses less fuel for sure than my old belly slung tractor and battery access is simple. All in all I'd buy another one in a minute. I did research for months before pulling the plug and buying the Bad Boy MZ Magnum and I'm glad I made the purchase. Excellent mower overall.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Zero turn is my hero My mower is a beast I’ve only used it once but use it a couple hrs and no issues straight out of the crate. Tractor supply could’ve been more helpful in helping me understand the machine. They didn’t even have the courtesy to remove the tractor from the metal crate.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Caution: Very well built except the transaxles I really want to love this mower, but I'll let others describe the good things about this mower and describe one critically poor component that I feel you must know about: The two transaxles in this mower cannot be serviced; the oil and filter cannot be changed. In my experience this drastically reduces the duty cycle and lifetime of the mower. At 4 years of ownership and ~186 hours run-time, my right side transaxle died. And a single new transaxle is nearly 20% of the new cost of the entire mower. I have 3 acres of grass to cut and now I read in the Q&A here that the mower "is rated for 1.5 acres". That just seems terribly low for such a robustly built machine, but now I suspect why. The transaxles have inadequate cooling for only ~1.5 quarts of oil that can never be changed. I think instead of an "acres" rating, the mower should probably have an "hours" rating, i.e. don't use it for more than 45 min each time. Perhaps that would allow the trans time to cool. Other related cautions: - Don't push or pull (tow) anything with the mower. The transaxles are rated for a 900 Lb (total) machine and this mower weighs nearly 700. Add a 200 Lb rider and you're already at the limit. - Don't operate the drive levers quickly: the transaxles inner rotating parts are steel against aluminum and oil pressure spikes from fast accel/decel can dig chunks out of the internal aluminum pump/motor "center section" part and, since you can't change the oil or filter, the resulting contamination will eventually destroy the transaxle. Final notes: - The transaxles CAN be repaired, I did it myself but it was not simple. I suspect it would still be cheaper than buying a new one if you can find someone who can do it for you. - Many of the zero turn mowers that compete with the MZ Magnum use the same model transaxles. If anything I said here worries you, I'd recommend you buy a mower in the next price range up. Just make sure the transaxles are serviceable - that you can change both their oil and filters. Other than that, the mower is a very tough machine. Bad Boy did great, Hydro-Gear (the transaxle maker) not so much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great job Bad Boy!! Great speed & agility. Engine is poweful! I had a Cub Cadet, it was great, but after years of good use, it finally died. The Bad Boy is in another class. The difference is night and day..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bad Boy 54 So far so good. I bought this mower for my personal use, but also own a small landscape company. I have about 10 hours on it, mowing tall fescue and also pasture grass/weeds. It seems to be doing its job. Certainly a fast machine, starts right up, good on fuel, cuts flat. I don't have a lot of use on it, but I am happy with it so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Badboy magnum 54" This mower is a beast. Have 9 hours on mine so far and no complaints. Tires slip some but thats typical on zeroturns. Love the bigger 5 gal tank than my last mower so less fuel ups. The deck seems indestructable and you can stand on it to climb on the mower and it doesnt budge. Very cost effective quality mower. I highly reccomend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rider vs Zero-turn Wish I would of switched sooner Mower runs great, easy to use (my 6 year old can use it), ride is smooth, fast. Bought this and sold my riding 54" and it cut my 3.5 hour mowing to under 2 hours.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from BAD UN' BAD BOY IS A BAD MACHINE. I have not gotten used to it due to Parkinson's. My 9 yr. old great grandson can run it. It gets the job done in half the time as before with a 46" lawn tractor. Folks at Tractor supply were great on having my order at store and correct. So far my only draw back is they stock a limited supply of accessories. We are excited about the opening a of large tractor supply store Sept. 26th in my home town. Seniors like convenience. Maybe we won't have to travel to get mowers serviced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bad Boy MZ Magnum 54 So far this zero turn has been excellent. There is only one thing I am concerned about and that is reaching the belt drive tensioner under the engine to grease it. I plan to contact tech support etc. Some of the negative comments online about having an authorized repair facility check all the settings have merit but not for the reason given. The Tractor Supply dies little to set it up. Everything is set at the factory. All the dealer does is attach the seat and the control arms and add gas. It is even shipped with oil.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bad Boy MZ Have had Magnum Bad Boy for about 3 weeks. Cuts fast, even. I have some hills that show higher than "ideal", this mower did fine with the terrain. I'll provide an update after a few months of cutting. I've used to cut about 4 acres, worked exactly as advertised. It's a heavy machine, as always keep it out of anything too soft or you'll have to pull it out.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from "Poor" Isn't a low enough Rating! DO NOT BUY BADBOY My Landscaping company has invested over $20,000 into these mower in the past 2 year. Literally, COUNTLESS REPAIRS AND TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT W/ BADBOY MOWER.
Date published: 2019-09-18
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Had to return it unfortunately. Really liked the mower until I used it for the first time. This is not my first zero turn, I owned a lawn care for 10 years. The only real problem was it won't mow a slight hill side what so ever. The real problem is the rear tires are way to small and not wide enough to hold traction when needed. To bad it was priced good for a home unit. Otherwise if your mowing flat yards you will love it. Sorry I had to rate it at a one Star, but people should know before you buy this unit. Cut was decent but did scalp more then I liked because it does not have rear deck wheels. Ended up going to the Cub ZT2 50inch that tractor supply sells and really like that unit better and a bonus was it has the Kawasaki engine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best mower I've ever had! Bought this mower to replace a old Toro grounds master mower. I've had it about a month and have cut 3 times, each cutting is about 4 acres. I'm pleased eith the mowers performance and quality. I totally recommend this mower.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bad Boy to say the least This is the best mower I've ever owned. It far exceeds Craftsman and Troy Bilt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NASCAR mower We own a ranch, the yard area is 3 acres, I have never had such a smooth cut yard like what this Mower does, it’s fast, smooth and so easy on myself and wife.. we even cut s 54” pass on all our fence lines.. we were at 2 1/2 hours before, now about 45 minutes.. tried to remove one of the blades to sharpen it, couldn’t break it loose. Made a call to bad boy mowers, never had anyone go beyond to help and make it all good.. what an A+ for customer service, I feel if this is the way they take care of there customers, no wonder why, there product is as great as it is .. way to go guys, ya hit this one completely out of the yard and pasture

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The awsomest lawn mower ever This is the best lawn mower i have ever had replaced a craftsman 54 inch tractor and runs circles around it
Date published: 2019-09-07
Rated 5 out of 5 by from bad boy is definitely a bad boy never owned a zero turn . because it cuts better than any of tractor types I've owned, my grass was tall waiting for this mower but when I got it , it walked through 9" of grass with no problem, I would definitely recommend this bad boy to anyone, , I mowed up steeper hills than recommended. when I got on it and took off it had so much power it almost through me off, wife said you need a seat belt.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bad Boy MZ Magnum 54” Very pleased with this purchase, just made my 5hr oil change and have to say this Bad Boy Magnum cuts very smooth and efficiently! Would certainly recommend this mower!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This mower is a BEAST! Buying the Bad Boy MZ Magnum is the best decision I have made related to mowers ever. It is strong, easy to operate, easy to clean and very comfortable, I could sit on this mower for hours without a problem. The only thing I would change is the tire size, the rear tires are a little small for this mower, it could easily handle a larger tire to reduce spinning.
Date published: 2019-09-03
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bad Boy MZ Very happy with its performance and ease of operation.
Date published: 2019-09-02
Rated 4 out of 5 by from First Zero Turn Had spoken with neighbor about the bad boy and felt like it was an overall good fit for our acre lot. And after 3 weeks we are not disappointed. Good speed and braking, cut quality is consistently good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful machine , Well made in the USA . When I call on how to adjust a part I actually talked to an American worker who knew this machine inside out !!! Wow that has not happened in years . He told me now to fix the machine quickly and easily and clearly! I’ve owned this machine now for 3 seasons and it runs perfectly. I have 3 acres of grass on a hilly terrain with edge trimming around many gardens ; this mower does it all . It’s stable on hills , fast on level ground and fuel efficient ; about 2 gal / 3 acres. Other then sharpening blades , changing oil and filters each yr and a few small adjustments I’ve had no other problems!! I cut all my grass in 2hr ! Before this machine I had a 61” cut commercial Scagg . It took me 3 hrs to do the same cut ; with frequent repairs . It does cut up my turf a little on tight turns . I may need to change tires tread design . Blades are a little tuff to get to to service ; you will need a good jack . I’m 70 and probably I’ll never need another machine but if I did it would be another Bad Boy for sure . Thank you for a well made machine .

Rated 3 out of 5 by from First mower blew engine I've had my 54" bad boy for a while now. The 1st one I bought the motor blew on the Kohler engine. After that i had to be upgraded to the bigger Kawasaki motor and I also use the pecco vac system for my collection. Mower is very long so do not plan on using this for small yards.

My badboy developed a problem - it won't start. It appears to be in the interlock system. If you wiggle the right control arm a small amount, it will start but then you have to quickly release the brake. I need a wiring diagram.

Asked by: John0831
The wiring diagram is available in the owner's manual provided with the mower. The manuals are also available at www.badboymowers.com. You can also have your mower repaired by an authorized service location.
