As long as the heat lamp is being used to warm chicks • 0–1 week: 93–95°F (33.9–35°C) • 1–2 weeks: 88–90°F (31.1–32.2°C) • 2–3 weeks: 83–85°F (28.3–29.4°C) • 3–4 weeks: 78–80°F (25.6–26.7°C) The melt point of the plastic resin is about 220°F Thus, for warming the chick is perfectly fine. Bottom of container cracks quickly

I bought 3 of these and within 2 month of purchase I am having to replace all of them. The sides are strong but each tub cracked on the bottom. I am so disappointed.

Can't take much of a beating.

This serves it's purpose, but is made of a somewhat brittle plastic. I have a filly that messes with her feeders and she has broken three of these in 10 months. If they were more of a flexible rubber type, they would withstand being beaten up a bit by a playful horse.
