Rated 1 out of 5 by from Contains SEED!!! Ruined my garden beds!!! Contains hundreds possibly thousands of grass seeds! This product cost me hours of labor to remove and handpick the grass it sowed into my pristine garden beds! Awful

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bedding Straw Works great for bedding for our chickens and duck.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Massive sprouting So disappointed and frustrated. I bought this for mulch in my garden, and it is creating a huge problem, sprouting thickly everywhere! What a headache, much more work to weed the straw that it would have been to weed the weeds in my garden.I will never buy this product again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb quality and volume I use it for covering grass seed on bare ground and sparse lawn patches. It's volume expands to cover 3-4 times more than a regular bale. The straw's texture is softer, fewer weeds germinate and it absorbs into the lawn.

2 wks ago covered veggie garden with your comp hay as a mulch. it is sprouting green grass over the entire garden! used reg straw other yrs without problem. will the grass (wheat or barley) return in the spring or will CT winter kill it

Asked by: flywayridge
Thank you for your comment. Standlee’s straw is Certified weed free, however it is not guaranteed seed free. Some of the seeds from the wheat/barley plant can be in the compressed straw bales, therefore there is a possibility that you will have wheat or barley sprouts in the location in which the straw is spread. There is a possibility that it could return in the spring, it all is based on the product and how harsh the winter is. Thank you

CAN I USE THIS PRODUCT TO PLANT VEGETABLES IN? I AM INTERESTED IN MAKING A "STRAW GARDEN"

Can this be used in a garden pond? Assuming it’s barley straw?

Asked by: Gypsy13
The Standlee Straw can be either Wheat or Barley. Standlee Premium Western Forage’s main crop that we use for our straw is Barley, as Wheat is not a crop that is grown in large quantities in Idaho. We do not mix the products, it is either Barley or Wheat Straw that is in the bales, we manufacture one product at a time and ship out that product. The product is not labeled as when the product is stored, it is not separated by barley or wheat, simply by straw.

I see that this is not supposed to be fed but I have read on several different websites that this is product is indeed good for donkeys, is that correct?

Asked by: Big Daddy J
Thank you for your inquiry. The Standlee Straw is safe for donkey’s consumption. An equine’s digestive system is much different in how they break down feed and process it than a donkey. Straw in an equines diet can cause compaction, therefore we do not recommend it be used for horses. The main crop that we use for our straw is Barley, as Wheat is not a crop that is grown in large quantities in Idaho. We do not mix the products, it is either Barley or Wheat Straw that is in the bales, we manufacture one product at a time and ship out that product. Wheat straw is very fibrous and has lower energy values. Thank you

Is this straw mostly whole or is it chopped to shorter pieces?

Asked by: fish_4_all
Thank you for your inquiry. When we manufacture the Compressed and Grab and Go bales, we use a 4’ x 4’ x 8’ bale of forage, run it through a machine that slices it horizontally twice and then pushes it across the scale, compresses it and bands it. Thank you
