Rated 5 out of 5 by from Soft Flakes! I have purchased Fresf Flakes for several months for nesting material for my hen house. Eggs stay much cleaner with Fresh Flakes absorbing their waste while nesting in the box.

can this be used in a rabbit habitat 4'x6' and how often would you clean and put fresh usually for 5 rabbits?

Asked by: PJH25
Yes, you can use this bedding in a rabbit house. When cleaning the pen you need to gauge it by the amount of feces and ammonia in the pen. I recommend cleaning the cage 1-2 times a week, but with 5 rabbits you might need to do it more often to keep the smell down.

I am considering switching from chopped straw to pine flakes. What would the benefit to switching be? How often do the flakes need to be changed in the coop? Right now we clean out the coop about once per week.

Asked by: smr123
One advantage of pine shavings over straw would be the smell. The pine shavings will help reduce the smell in your coop better than what straw will. The pine shavings will also absorb water and urine better than straw. I still recommend cleaning the coop once a week, but if you think the coop does not smell, or seem to be as dirty you might be able to let it go a little longer.

How is this product different or better than kiln-dried pine shavings that are marketed for horses?

Asked by: SerenaG
This product is certified organic, so it will not contain treated pine. This product will also be less dusty than regular shavings, as we remove small particles.
