Toro 30 in. TimeMaster with Personal Pace Gas Lawn Mower

Warning- do not purchase unless you want to be totally frustrated and disappointed. This is a 100% honest and hands on review unlike many of the others. Every single thing about this mower is terrible. All of the product stats are inaccurate and you will find out almost immediately that it does nothing as advertised. Let's start off with the basics: Guaranteed to start- nope. Never starts. Randomly shuts off while mowing. Takes at least 10 pulls to get going every single time and much much more including waiting times if it shuts off when warm. Rear wheel drive? Well.... half correct. It’s rear wheel ONE WHEEL drive and it's horrible. The wheels do absolutely nothing for grip except to grip the grass clumps that this thing randomly kicks out and then clogs the one wheel up so the only drive wheel cannot function properly. Fuel tank- smaller than my wife’s bladder on a road trip. I mow just over 1/4 acre and I have to refill the tank 5-6 times to get through it. Bagging system? Small, cheaply made and clogs up so often I wonder why it even exists. No joking- I spend more time watching the "bag bloat" on the machine to make sure the airflow isn't clogged than I do actually watching the terrible performance. It’s heavy, clumsy, not well balanced, the PERSONAL-PACE is a gimmick. You cant mow while using it properly because it moves quick enough to stall the under-powered mower out almost immediately at any cut height. One of the biggest problems that will probably be the death of this mower is the clutch-engagement system to turn on the cutting heads. In theory- this is an amazing feature. Where they screwed up is the power is not sufficient to start the blades properly. You have to bleed in the clutch so slow that it is impossible to do it without burning the belts. Any faster and the mower stalls out. Obviously, this is going to significantly shorten the life of the belts, mower, and is very hard on the power plant. DO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO MOW WITH THIS if you have even the slightest amount of moisture on your lawn. Im not talking about wet grass- im talking about If your grass is healthy and green, DON'T MOW. You're walking into a nightmare. This mower is designed and ideal for someone with 1/2" tall grass in New Mexico or Arizona that has the patience of a Saint. The only thing that it has done well is cut quality is great if you mow your lawn with a real lawn mower first and then run this mower over that grass. Thats the only scenario where you just might be able to see what it could be capable of- if all of the above was corrected. We hate this thing. Unfortunately we bought it right before Xmas and didn’t need to use it until our return period was up. Im still considering just dropping it off and leaving it there at the store so it’s not wasting space in my garage. Again- you’ve been warned.

I love the cut quality and time savings of this mower. It doesn’t take much time at all to get used to the weight and moving it around objects. It starts easy and the blade stop is a great feature. The only minor complaint I can state after using the mower four times now is the self propel system. The personal pace is awesome as is with the Toro snow blower I have but as heavy as this mower is, it only drives one wheel and on the hills in my yard it takes a bit of effort to get it up the hill. The bagging worked great when I tried it and even in thicker high grass it barely bogged. Overall a good pick if you want a good cut and to save some time but be cautious if you have a real hilly yard.
