Fantastic Tool

We have about a mile of 4 strand high tensile fence that has been neglected for several years. I purchased this stretcher, the crimping tool and splicers from TSC. These tools make short work of a huge job, are easy to use and paid for themselves the first day. I highly reccommend!

Marginal Quality, Not the Best or Easiest to Use

First off, TSC is a great place but this is an example of some products that aren't really up to snuff. I've used similar style fence stretchers in the past with good success. My complaint about this particular model is it doesn't grab and hold onto smooth wire, it keeps slipping no matter how many times I tap on the clamping mechanism. I ended up using a vise grip in line with the wire before the stretcher's clamp in order to make it work properly. Not the greatest product out there but for the price it mostly does the job well. Also - it's very difficult to make the stretcher release when done stretching wire. Takes a fair amount of effort yanking on the handle and some colorful language before the jacking mechanism lets go.

Not worth taking home

Ratchet was extremely stiff. The wire catchers slip. I broke the handle off trying to get the wire tight after I used two pair of vise grips to hold the wires. I used three times before it broke.

Horrible tool!

This thing won't tighten when there is any pressure on the wire. It cranks a couple times until you get the littlest bit tight and then gives up. Teeth won't catch and no way to stretch wire at all. Totally worthless!!!!!

Works well, poor instructions

It took me a few minutes to figure out how to get to the gripping pawls. Paint had made hand actuation of the pawl lever impossible. I used my foot and a drop of oil to loosen the pivot. Other people who reviewed this tool and claim that it won't work with smooth wire are wrong. I'm still not sure what the best way to remove tension is.

JUNK!!!!

Stretcher won't rachet property. Once it begins to take tension the rachet mechanism won't engage. Worthless. Taking back tomorrow.
