- A: You use 1-K (clear) kerosene over pump (often red-dyed, #2) because 1-K is highly refined, has lower sulfur content, no dyes, and fewer impurities, preventing carbon buildup, soot, and strong odors, leading to cleaner burning, better wick life, and safer indoor operation for your RedStone heater, which is designed for this cleaner fuel. We have had this heater for 3 years now and so works like new. It has saved us many times with power outages and when weather gets extremely cold we will use it also. Heats up a open concept home with no issues (1,500 sq ft) and stays about 81° in the house

The mechanism that raises and lowers the wick seldom lasts for an entire season. After having to return several of these over the years the quality just hasn’t improved.
