Perfect for a 1st time chicken owner

Love this coop! Took about 4 hours with 2 people to put together. Directions were easy to follow. It's exactly what I was looking for with not building my own coop and spending a fortune. I have 10 chickens and so far 3 have moved in. Very roomy with three perch bars, 3 nesting boxes and the inside is very spacious. Others have mentioned the steep of the ramp, but my chickens have had no problem with it. I haven't had to make any additional changes to the security part whether adding latches or extra wiring. I'm in a forest setting and I've have no problem with the latches that it came with. Giving this 5 stars with my expectations!

I don’t recommend

It technically does the job it’s intended for, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Especially not if it is your chickens first coop after the brooder. The sliding door for the chickens to enter and exit the coop is my biggest qualm. It is pretty much useless as many wood on wood tracks are (especially since this is an outdoor coop so the door swells and warps with the elements). The metal handle is no help in opening or closing this sliding door so every morning I have to crouch down into my coop and try to muscle the sliding door open, or closed, and it is literally the biggest pain in the world. And I’m only 5’2”. I can’t imagine what a pain this would be for someone taller. Also, if this is your chickens first coop after the brooder, you have to teach them to use the ramp to go from the run. This means every evening I have to crouch down in the run and pick up nine chickens and set them on the ramp in hopes they will one day do it on their own. But where the issue comes in, is if the chickens don’t want to be picked up, they can just hide under the coop. I can’t get them under there unless I get down on my elbows and knees and I’m not doing that in a chicken run. So I just have to shake my bag of mealworms at them until they feel like obliging. Also, one of the doors to the run is completely useless to me as it was not manufactured correctly (see picture). That’s a huge bummer for this much money. I took a risk on this coop because there were no reviews to go off of. So Now I’m leaving a review so you can properly decide for yourself if these are cons you want to live with everyday. Pro- It’s cute…but I rather it be more functional.

Great coop for the price

We have had a few different “cheap” coops, and this one is by far built the sturdiest. The wood is twice as thick, and it’s HEAVY. Not as sturdy as building your own but I’m pretty sure this this will last quite a while. The run is super nice, it’s a little short but you could add onto it. Has easy access to several different areas for cleaning. We are still using the door after the first few months, but it’s a flimsy wooden slider that gets jammed up so I would order something different right away. Overall, if you buy the coop on sale, it is an EXCELLENT deal. Looks great and super sturdy.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Good overall for a maybe 6 birds

plenty of roost space for up to 12 birds, long term durability is in question. Definitely needs a good coat or two of paint before assembly. Nest box is drafty and frame bows a bit and sometimes it’s hard to close but it’s not a deal breaker. The instructions for the roof are pretty bad. Very little detail and I’m a detail person and a carpenter. Metal bracing they added is great as well as the coop run wire and doors. We added an automatic door and had to cut a notch in the run roofing for it to raise up. The design on the sliding coop door isn’t a great idea. Fills up with poop and bedding and I’m sure will be the first spot to rot. Keep a paint brush or something at the coop to brush out the track. Ventilation is good, let’s plenty of light in. Looks good, assembly other than the roof is straight forward. Just make sure you have the coop run panels right side up and right side in/out as you assemble. The plastic sheet on the floor is a smart addition to make cleanup easier as well.

Great for backyard chickens

Great coop for 6-8 bantam sized chickens or 4-5 medium sized chickens. I added extra latches to the access/door areas to make it a little more predator proof. Coop is a great for backyard chickens. Made of a little better quality material than the smaller coops but will most likely still need painting within a year or two. Caught this one on a great sale (approx 75% off) so it was worth the money.
