Mighty Mule E-Z Gates 10 W Solar Panel is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is what it is The wiring looks good, mounting hardware included. Puts out the right amount of power, but probably will add a second for the two batteries I'm charging. Solar is the way to go if you have lightning in your area. It doesn't affect your Mighty Mule like it does if it is plugged in to power.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must better than electricity So far, so good. I've had it installed for about 2 wks. As this unit had to be installed where the sun shines, we thread the wires through and ran pvc down the post and under the driveway to the battery box. This worked out well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great. needs a car battery instead of a lawn mower battery to work gate properly

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seems to be charging the battery, but haven't got to really test it since we haven't gotten the opener operational yet.

Does the solar chargers go into a floating mode (drops down to zero volts and amps) when battery is charged or does it continuously trickle charge at some rate? Is it suitable for use with a gel or AGM battery?

Asked by: GPop
Hi, the solar panel provides a constant trickle charge to the battery that is regulated by the gate opener's control board. Depending on which gate opener you have, depends on which type of battery we recommend. If you have a MM260, MM360, MM362 or MM660 we recommend a 12 Volt Automotive or Marine Type Battery that produces a minimum of 250 cold cranking amps (CCA). If you have a MM560 or MM562 we recommend our Mighty Mule 12 Volt 7 amp/hr Battery (Model # FM150).

Does this solar panel charge the battery directly or does it have to 'go through the Mighty Mule Gate opener'?

Asked by: Desertdog
Hi, the solar panel charges the battery through the control board to control amount of charge the battery receives. The batteries in our gate openers are trickle charged by either solar panel or AC transformer and the control board makes sure the batteries are not over charged.

How long does the battery last before needing to be replaced

Asked by: Erb1711
Hi Erb, the battery is continually trickle charged by the solar panel. Depending on the model of gate opener you purchase it will either include a battery or require a battery. Models: MM560 & MM562 include a 12-volt 7 amp hour battery (Model # FM150) that is rated for a 3 - 5 year life expectancy. Gate opener models MM260, MM360, MM362, MM660 all require a battery, we recommend a 12 Volt Automotive or Marine Type Battery that produces a minimum of 250 cold cranking amps (CCA). Depending on which battery you decide to purchase will depend on life expectancy, please refer to the manufacturer of the battery your purchase for more information.
