KBS Coatings RustSeal, Quart, Grey
Color:
KBS RustSeal in Grey is a rust stopping sealer in a neutral machine grey that hides dirt and looks right on frames, brackets, and shop equipment. RustSeal is a single component, ready to use, high solids moisture cured urethane that soaks into prepared metal and locks out the moisture that feeds rust. It goes over tightly rusted, sandblasted, or scuffed steel, so you do not have to get down to bright bare metal to stop the rust. Once cured it flows out to a rock hard ceramic like film that resists chips and scratches, yet stays flexible enough to expand and contract with the metal. It shrugs off road salt, fertilizer, and most every chemical, so it holds up on tractor frames, implements, trailers, truck chassis, mower decks, and gates. Brush it, roll it, or spray it. One quart covers about 100 sq ft at 2 mils. One note on sunlight. RustSeal is not UV stable. The rust protection does not weaken, but the color and sheen will chalk and fade. Out of the sun it can be left as the final finish. In the sun, topcoat with a solid color such as KBS BlackTop or KBS Top Coater. A clear coat will not solve it, since UV passes right through. Made in the USA.Surface prep is what makes RustSeal work. Knock off loose rust and flaking paint with 320 grit sandpaper, a wire brush, or a wire wheel. Clean with KBS Klean and rinse, and avoid solvent based cleaners that leave a residue. For rusted metal, treat with KBS RustBlast to etch the surface and convert remaining rust, then rinse and dry completely. A freshly sandblasted surface needs only the dust blown off. If the paint is sound, scuff with 320 grit and clean. Apply between 55 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit in moderate to dry conditions. It is moisture cured, so high humidity speeds the cure and low humidity slows it. Never apply in rain or on a damp surface. Do not shake the can. Stir thoroughly, pour a working amount into a separate container, and reseal the can. Apply at least 2 thin coats at about 2 mils each, or 3 for marine and industrial work. Recoat once the last coat leaves no fingerprint, typically 2 to 6 hours. Past 8 hours, wait 24 hours and scuff with 320 grit. Thin only with KBS number 1 Thinner or xylene. Cure 24 hours before topcoating.
