Rust-Oleum Specialty Farm & Implement Primer keeps valuable equipment looking like new with its durable, weather-resistant enamel formula. Use on tractors, lawn mowers, farm implements and more to add a rust preventative coating that resists fading and chipping. Heavy-duty primer withstands working conditions and can be applied to both wood and metal. Use as a base coat for Farm & Implement Paints, which provide excellent color matching to original equipment finishes for seamless touch ups. Not for use on galvanized metal.

- A: Absolutely, Gary! Rust-Oleum Specialty Farm and Implement Paint can be thinned for spray application, if necessary, with mineral spirits. For brush, roller, or airless spray application, thinning is not normally required. For airless spraying, if thinning is needed, thin up to 5% by volume. For air-atomized spray, thin up to 15% by volume. Do not thin with gasoline, lacquer thinner, or turpentine. Follow these guidelines, but refer to the spray equipment manufacturer’s instructions for oil-based paint; for airless spraying, the pump ratio is 30:1, fluid pressure is 1,600-2,400 psi, fluid tip is 0.013-0.017, and filter mesh is 100. The sooner you can apply a topcoat to a piece primed with Rust-Oleum Specialty Farm and Implement Primer, the better. The longer you go, the more likely the surface is to get contaminated, causing topcoat adhesion issues and for rusting to begin. Great Primer

This Primer is thick. I thin with Acetone and spray with Hvlp gun lays down smooth. Good aheision. Dry fast. I have bought 8 gallons so far over last 2 years and no issues. Great for the price. The Gloss Black is great as well.

I repainted a 1 use shipping container. It came in yellow and I wanted it to be gray to match my buildings. It had minimal rust as this container made only one trip from China to the USA before being sold to me. I pressure washed the container and treated the few rust spots. I applied the paint and its coverage rate was just horrible. I ended up using 4-5 times the application rate to get rid of the yellow showing thru. I applied 3-5 coats of paint. I used rollers and paint brushes. The end result is fantastic but the paint coverage listed on the can was not even close to the actual results. A year later the paint still looks like it was applied only weeks ago. It is durable and still looks great. Paint quality is fantastic, however the cost of painting this container was 4- times the expectation due to the paint coverage rate not being accurate.

Good quality sandable primer

Good sandable primer. I use this for all my primer jobs on all vehicles. I have probably used this on 20 different vehicles and never had any comeback with chipping or cracking or paint pealing or popping off due to bad primer. Its a good product and sands easy.
