KBS Top Coater in Fire Red is a high solids, single component topcoat built for farm and ranch equipment. Fire Red is a bold red for tractors, implements, trailers, and equipment. It bonds direct to bare steel and aluminum with no primer, brushes, rolls, or sprays on without running or sagging, and levels out brush marks for a smooth finish. The gloss finish is UV stable, so it will not chalk or fade in the sun, and it resists heat up to 300 F. It is the topcoat to use over RustSeal on anything that sits outside. One quart covers up to 175 sq ft in one coat, or about 90 sq ft with the recommended two coats.Apply to clean, dry surfaces. For the best rust protection, seal rusted metal with RustSeal first. Over freshly painted RustSeal 3 to 8 hours old, apply KBS Top Coater directly with no other prep. For all other surfaces, lightly sand or scuff with 320 grit, then clean with KBS Klean, rinse, and dry. Avoid solvent based cleaners, which leave a residue that hurts adhesion. Stir thoroughly for several minutes, touching the bottom of the can to lift settled pigment, and keep stirring while you paint. Apply between 55 and 82 F at 70 percent humidity or lower, with the surface at least 5 F above the dew point. Brush with a natural bristle brush or roll with a 3/8 inch woven roller, thinning up to 10 percent with KBS number 1 Thinner or xylene if desired. For spraying, thin 10 to 20 percent as required. Recoat after 8 hours and before 7 days. Full cure takes 4 to 7 days, or force dry at up to 180 F after a 15 minute flash. Clean up with KBS number 1 Thinner or mineral spirits.
