KBS RustSeal in Silver is a rust stopping sealer in a bright silver that gives tired steel a clean finished look without polishing or plating. RustSeal is a single component, ready to use, high solids moisture cured urethane that soaks into prepared metal and locks out the moisture that feeds rust. It goes over tightly rusted, sandblasted, or scuffed steel, so you do not have to get down to bright bare metal before you can stop the rust. Once cured it flows out to a rock hard ceramic like film that is tough to chip or scratch, yet flexible enough to expand and contract with the metal instead of cracking or peeling. It shrugs off road salt, fertilizer, and most every chemical, which is why it holds up on tractor frames, implements, trailers, truck chassis, mower decks, gates, and livestock equipment. Brush it, roll it, or spray it. One quart covers about 100 sq ft at 2 mils dry film thickness. Important note on sunlight: RustSeal is not UV stable. Its rust protection does not weaken in the sun, but the color and sheen will chalk and fade over time in direct sunlight. On parts that stay out of the sun, such as frames, floor pans, undercarriages, and equipment interiors, RustSeal can be left as the final finish. On surfaces that see sun, topcoat it with a solid color such as KBS BlackTop or KBS Top Coater. A clear coat will not solve this, since UV passes right through it. Made in the USA in Valparaiso, Indiana.Surface prep is what makes RustSeal work. Start by knocking off loose rust and flaking paint with 320 grit sandpaper, a wire brush, or a wire wheel. Clean the surface with KBS Klean and rinse, and avoid solvent based cleaners that leave a residue behind. For rusted metal, treat with RustBlast to etch the surface and convert remaining rust, then rinse and let it dry completely. A freshly sandblasted surface needs nothing more than the dust blown off. If the part is painted and the paint is sound, scuff it with 320 grit and clean it. Apply RustSeal between 55 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit in moderate to dry conditions.
