Weak, badly shipped, sickly

Sick, weak, 3 dead on arrival. 5 more died before 48 hours. No warmin pad in box, no moisture pad. Tightly shipped in foam squeezing them. Pitiful.

Ordered 20 silver lakenvelder chicks, 10 were straight run and 10 pullets. The first day 5 died and then 1 a day since. They may have stayed in transit to long, but the 1 a day after the first day? I have over 200 chickens, so nothing we did wrong, and most are from Hoovers, except my sop quality blue laced Wyandots. First time to try Lakenvelders .The chicks would start panting for about 2 minutes and then fall over and legs would get stiff as a board, then have a seizure and die. This entire death process lasted about 3 minutes total. I contacted Hoover and they were VERY nice and replaced my chicks, even though it took 10 days for all to die. It has been 12 days now total and new babies have just arrived and I have 8 of the original's left also. I hope the new ones do better. I keep a heat lamp on them, and the small ones stay indoors till about 3 weeks old then to the brooder. This could have been the post office fault? just took so long for 1 to die a day, so it is a mystery, but Hoovers is great at customer service. Is this a weak breed? We will see. Reverend T. Tucker
