Nice price for apple tree

After paying significantly more for the other small trees in my orchard, I decided to take a chance on these lost-cost Fuji whips, despite reviews from other purchasers who did not have a good experience with them. Some details about my experience that may helpful to others: BE PATIENT with these little trees! They were packaged well. I planted mine in mid-March, and for the first 2 months afterward they looked lifeless. In addition to trimming off the top of the whip, I notched the bark above selected leaf buds to stimulate branching, and eventually those leaf buds popped with new growth. It was as if they were in deep sleep and needed a little prodding to wake up. The trees are coming to life after 11 weeks in the ground (see photo).

No roots

I bought this and a Golden Delicious apple tree and a plum tree a few days ago. Any main roots of the trees have been chopped off about 3-4" from the base of the tree. They obviously had great root systems!, but these trees fell out of their bags of dry, dusty dirt like long sticks upon getting opened... no roots. No moisture whatsoever. The long bags they're packaged in are a complete farce. You could fit these mangled roots into a ziploc sandwich bag, and it be spacious. I clearly couldn't plant the sticks in their designated spots on the property, so I potted them to keep an eye on them. I have purchased many bare root trees... I have never seen anything as awful as this. I do not anticipate these trees ever showing signs of life.

Terrible trees!

I bought one of these and one of the peach trees. Both were a little more than a stick with a couple roots. Neither tree even budded. Complete waste of money.

No, I do not recommend this product.

The jury is out on this one

The price was good, however I am not sure how successful these will be. Planted to apple trees and two peach trees exactly how the directions said. So far, no blooms or growth - they look pretty dead. We shall see...

Dear Kerrybelle, thank you for taking the time to share your experience with your Fuji Apple tree. Our product is dormant, packaged bare root plants intended to be without foliage (leaves) while in the store. Dormant plants such as these offer the opportunity to jumpstart spring planting because they can be planted in the ground earlier than potted plants. Depending on the climate and weather experienced after planting, this plant could take up to 8 weeks to break dormancy and show signs of growth. At DeGroot, we strive to provide high quality plants that have high success rates for the home gardener at fair and reasonable prices. In the rare instance you do not have success with one of our fruit trees, we encourage you to contact us at (269) 468-6714 or [email protected] so we may assist you. Thank you, DeGroot Inc. DeGroot

Dead when I picked it up.

The thing looked dead when I picked it up. I scratched a little bark off to check, and I didn't see any green underneath. I took it home, and when I re-potted it I saw obvious fungus on the roots. Seems like a lot of the plants I get from Tractor Supply have serious issues. You get what you pay for, I guess.

No, I do not recommend this product.
