Q: What is difference between treated wood and pressure treated wood posts?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Neighbor! Pressure-treated wood is a specific type of treated lumber where preservatives are forced deep into the wood fibers under high pressure, offering superior, long-term protection against rot and insects compared to surface-treated (dipped) wood. Pressure treatment is essential for ground-contact posts, lasting 20-35 years.

  • A: Posts are sourced locally per region and have different standards for treatment. Pine Forest Lumber Company, one of the vendors, offers products treated with CCA, ACQ and micronized copper. CCA (chromated copper arsenate) is an inorganic arsenical; the most prevalent of the water-borne wood preservatives, commonly used anywhere termites and decay attach may occur, both indoors and outdoors. ACQ (ammoniacal copper quat) is a water-borne preservative containing copper and quaternary ammonium compounds.

most were split down the post

yeah, I think it would have been better for me to picked up and I could have assessed whether or not these were usable. Most of them had large splits through the post.

Great if you don't let them touch the ground!

I used these posts to build a fence 4 years ago and over half of them are rotted off right at ground level. The fence is on a ridge not wet ground. VERY DISAPPOINTED !!
