VERY HARD TO INSTALL AND NO INSTRUCTIONSI had to replace a hub on my 1987 boat trailer and bought a Carry-On hub from TSC and a pair of bearing protectors. So I had one original hub and a new Carry-On hub. I could not get the protector in my original hub so I figured the hub was probably just too tight, maybe on the tight end of the specifications. I went to the side with the new hub, no luck there. Then I got the file out and put a 0.090 inch , ten degree chamfer on it. Using a 20 ounce hammer (and 2X4) it still wouldn't go. So, I upgraded to a 3 pound hammer and finally got it on. There were no instructions in my package and none on the TSC site. I wish I had read the reviews, the freezing idea was a good one as well as using a BIG hammer. I know about freezing just didn't think about it. On a hot day freezing the Protector will reduce the diameter about 0.001" which is a lot on a 2" diameter. On a cold day putting a heat gun on the hub and getting it up to a hot-to-touch temp (140 F.) would give you another 1/2 thousand inch.

a little difficult to installthe instructions say to use a rubber mallet. that's a joke. my first attempt to install these was a failure- there was no way they would go in even using a big hammer with a piece of 2x4 in between. after thinking about it, I put a little grease on the protector's bevel edge and stuck them in the deep freeze for a couple hours. that did the trick! taking the temp down to zero must have shrunk it down just enough to go in.

Fit my CarryOn trailer fine.Took a chance after reading the reviews, some folks may have gotten a bad batch. Used a 3 pound (shot filled) rubber hammer, lined them up and they tapped right in. Now, they are good and tight, but they are supposed to fit like that.

Machined too largeI bought these after a physical comparison with the dust cap, and they appeared to be the correct item. I have had numerous trailers over the years, and have installed this type of item on each of them without problems, so I know what I'm doing. These absolutely defy installation. I used a 2x4 and heavy hammer to avoid damage to the item, and it will not even begin to drive home. The parts are going back to Tractor Supply tomorrow for a refund.
