American Farm Works 8-Light Electric Fence Voltage Tester

I bought this today and used it for the first time, seemed to work as it should, but was difficult to see the flashing led's. It was even a cloudy day, had to cup my hands around it to see them. It think I will exchange it for a digital model.

This does receive voltage, but it keeps this a secret from you during the daytime. It is only when it is so dark outside that you cannot read the voltage levels written on the side, you will be able to see the indicator lights. After meticulously setting my electric fence up, I used this voltage tester to test my handiwork. I was completely deflated when I saw no blinking lights. I am new to electric fencing, so I assumed I must have made a mistake in my wiring. I wasted at least an hour checking all my lines and connections - until it dawned on me that maybe the tester was at fault. After reading reviews that the light was extremely dim with this device, I retested my fence - with a cupped hand, hunched over it and my eyeball just right up against it - it was daytime, but late in the day and not overly sunny at all - and I could just barely make out that there was an anemic blinking happening...I wouldn't even say it was a light, just a whisper of flutter in there. I might try to make some kind of dark box I can fit over it, so that I can actually use it. But for the price, it is absurd that anyone would need to do that. Not only is having to put my face so close to it in an attempt to see the faint indicator light incredible annoying, but it seems like a perfect recipe to get shocked one day. I would not recommend this product at all.
