Q: what size well pump will this screen handle? 1.5hp ?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi, The Water Source Well Point 1-1/4 in. x 36 in. WP3680 is designed for use with shallow well or pitcher pump installations, and it can handle a pump capacity up to 3 gallons per minute (GPM). This is based on the fact that sand point wells, which often use similar well points, typically provide up to 3 GPM.

Sand point

It's a fine sand point, but you can buy the same one from the larger box store for 50 dollars less. Tractor supply is a great store but a little over priced on some stuff

Well point driver

It depends on the soil whether you can drive the water source well point into the ground. You may need to use a power driver. Be certain to use a driver cap and have several available.

Performance and other (negative) reviews

A number of reviews mention the threads cracking from being driven down in. We were no exception. But after the return and swap out we were more gentle not to “sledge” it down - rather tap in with easier 4 lb. hammer. A less aggressive drive in got us to 18’ without issues and clear water. Be patient and don’t pound it - steadily drive it and it will work fine!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Snapped at the threads, steel was obviously too thin to handle the pounding needed to drive the point.

Junk

Got down about 8 feet I noticed the pipe was just spinning. Figured it must’ve loosened up. Nope broke right off at the top into the Coupler. The threaded end is only about 1/16 thick. Now I have a 65,00 piece of junk buried for some future generation.

Broke off?

These things are made for sand or gravel, maybe clay though it may need a finer screen...running into a boulder or bedrock would certainly make it worthless and broke with some effort...they just won't work in some places, no fault of their own, know your ground for the water table and the big stone...location location location

Well made

This is an inch and a quarter drive point, but nowhere could I find that info in the description. This description on this website leaves something to be desired. I bought 2 of these points and drove one down to 23 feet in 3 hours by myself and a rope tied to an axle and punkin. The next day I hooked up the pump and was pumping water. What I'd recommend though, is to make sure before you start it in the hole, that nothing has fallen down into the point. An orange plastic pipe cap must have fallen off my shelf and found its way into the point. When I started the pump it lodged in my 3/4 discharge pipe reducer, and plugged it completely. I'd recommend this product and am very happy with it.

Yes, I recommend this product.
