Your machine comes from the factory ready to recycle the grass and leaf clippings back into the lawn. Q: How hard is it to pull backward, as in cutting in a confined area. I.e. can you reverse the drive or overcome the forward transmission?

- A: Hi, Paul! Thanks for your question. This model #21462, is equipped with our self-propelled Personal Pace Auto-Drive system. To operate the self-propel drive, simply walk with your hands on the upper handle and your elbows at your sides, and the machine will automatically keep pace with you. If the machine does not freely roll backward after self-propelling, stop walking, hold your hands in place, and allow the machine to roll a couple of centimeters (inches) forward to disengage the wheel drive. You can also try reaching just under the upper handle to the metal handle and pushing the machine forward a couple of centimeters (inches). Poorly engineered.

My major complaint with this mower is that the cutting height is very hard to adjust. The mower has individual adjustment levers for each wheel. These levers are short and very stiff. The "personal pace" feature is just hype. On my mower, it either goes or it doesn't.

Toror 2-in-1 with no side chute

Bought this mower at a reduced cost because it was returned from a customer. The Toro specifications are incorrect. It only mulches or bags, there is no side chute as described. Its not a 3-in-1 mower. It does cut well. I will allow the tear spring loaded flap to remain farther open so it can rear exit without jamming. Toro is a great name and to have wrong information listed is plain wrong!

Anything but a Toro

Purchased the Toro on July 14, 2024. May 15, 2026 this mower is toast. Stopped in the middle of the yard. Took it to " authorized service dealer". They tell me the cylinder is scratched due to excessive dirt getting in through the air filter. How did this happen? They engineered this crappy design! I have changed the air filter 3 times in the less than 2 years it ran. I have fewer than 25 hours on this mower. Admittedly we have been in a drought here in central Texas so lots of dust kicked up. But why is the air filtration system not preventing dirt from entering the engine? Toro and Briggs and Stratton, you have a serious design flaw in the engineering of this mower. But its the consumer who pays the price. Even though its a design defect, it's the consumer's fault. The warranty is not worth the paper its written on. We'll, never again Toro. Never again B&S. And Tractor Supply, you're just as complicit for selling this junk.
