This Stump Stop 32 oz. Cut Stump and Basal Bark Treatment is used to control nearly 100 varieties of woody plant species, including alder, birch, dogwood, elm and many more. It also kills poison ivy and poison oak. This stump killer is used in forests, rangeland, permanent pastures, industrial manufacturing and storage sites, rights-of-way and other areas. These sites may include application to grazed areas, as well as the establishment and maintenance of wildlife openings. This herbicide is ready to use and requires no mixing.

For additional information on this product, please see the Product Documents section for all downloadable user manuals, installation guides, brochures and warranty statements.

  • Stump and root killer is ready to use and requires no mixing
  • Apply Stump Stop herbicide to cut stumps to control resprouting
  • Used to control nearly 100 varieties of woody plant species, including alder, birch, dogwood, elm, hawthorn, locust, Russian olive, pine, sumac, willow and many more
  • Also kills poison ivy and poison oak
  • Applications: Forests, rangeland, permanent pastures, industrial manufacturing and storage sites, rights-of-way (such as electrical power lines, communication lines, pipelines, road sides and railroads), fence rows, non-irrigation ditch banks and around farm buildings
  • For cut stumps: Treatments may be applied throughout the year, except when snow or water prevents spraying to the ground line. Control may be reduced with treatment during periods of moisture stress as in late summer.
  • For basal bark treatment: Apply at any time, including the winter months, except when snow or water prevents spraying to the ground line.
  • To control resprouting: apply undiluted Stump Stop to wet the area adjacent to the cambium and bark around the entire circumference and the sides of cut stumps. Sides of stumps should be thoroughly wetted down to the root collar area, but not to the point of runoff.
  • To control susceptible woody plants with stems less than a 6 in. basal diameter: Apply Stump Stop with a backpack or knapsack sprayer using low pressure and a solid cone or flat fan nozzle. Spray the basal parts of brush and tree trunks in a manner that thoroughly wets the lower 12 to 15 in. of stems, including the root collar area, but not to the point of runoff. Herbicide concentration should vary with size and susceptibility of species treated.
  • See the complete label for specific use rates and detailed instructions
  • Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for important safety information

1 Answer
  • AI-generated, Human-approved
A: When used as directed, this treatment stays on the treated area and will not spread to nearby plants or grassy areas. It is designed to be applied directly to tree stumps or the base of trunks, but you should apply it carefully to avoid overspray on surrounding vegetation.

Q: Will this kill ground covering English ivy

1 Answer
  • A: Howdy neighbor! Stump Stop Cut Stump and Basal Bark Treatment will successfully kill ground covering English ivy, but only if you cut the thick vines and apply the product directly to the fresh stumps. Because English ivy leaves have a thick, waxy coating that repels liquids, a standard spray over the foliage will slide right off without killing the plant. Painting the undiluted chemical directly onto the raw, cut stems forces the ivy to draw the treatment deep into its root system for permanent eradication.

Q: Does this work on old stumps?

1 Answer
  • A: Howdy neighbor! Stump Stop will not work on old, dry stumps because it is an herbicide that requires live plant tissue to function. It is designed to stop active root systems from sprouting rather than rotting away old wood. If your stump is already dead and weathered, you will want to use a decomposition accelerator.

Given wrong it’s

I placed an online order, they loaded in my car. I went to get my stump killer and it was a bottle of granular pieces you gave to drill holes. It is 3 dollars less. They charged me for what I ordered. Now I have to make a trip to the store and get a refund or exchange.

Effective!

Stump stop has been very effective for me. I am killing invasive species like honeysuckle, blackberries, wisteria, beauty berries and crepe myrtles that have volunteered in my flower beds. Moved on to pine trees and cedar trees sprouting down by the pond, spoiling my view. Very happy with the product!

Yes, I recommend this product.
