We moved to a new home last year and the former owners left behind the bird feeders. It wasn't really my thing, but now I enjoy watching the birds peck away at the suet cakes. My 3 year old likes helping me replace the cakes, so it's an opportunity for us to spend time together. These cakes from Tractor Supply are great and work as advertised.

This is the first time I’ve put out suet in the Spring in years. The Downy, Hairy and Red Breasted woodpeckers really go for it, while the rest of the birds go to the regular feeders. An occasional Grackle is on the suet, but the woodpeckers like having their own feed station.
