Q: We purchased this kettle and it smells so bad. We let it go for one night thinking the terrible smell would go away after it got hot enough to burn off whatever that smell is but it did not, and it stained the top of our griddle on our Vermont Castings.

Very Good Price

This cast iron kettle is a great buy and will last for many life times if you will do one thing after you buy it, properly treat the cast iron. I found it is best to use Crisco in the can and rub a thin amount all over the kettle inside and out. Make sure you catch every bit of cast iron. Don’t need to worry about the shinny steel handle. Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees or better yet if you have an outdoor gas grill adjust your heat to about 325 to 350 degrees. Close lid. The gas grill outside is actually the best because the Crisco will smoke some as it bonds to the cast iron. Let the kettle stay in the oven or grill for one hour. Let cool fully and you have now bonded and cured your cast iron. You should try and do this once a year to keep it from rusting

Rusts after one week

I had previously been using a sauce pan on top of my woodstove to get some moisture into the house. I purchased this kettle because I wanted something that looked nicer. After one week the kettle started rusting. By the end of two months the entire thing was rusted inside and out. It even transferred rust to the top of my 3000 dollar woodstove. I now have to repaint my 2 year old woodstove. This kettle went into the garbage and I'm back to the sauce pan, I would never buy one of these again.

Big help adding humidity back into the air!

This was the perfect addition to the top of our wood stove and kicks out a great amount of moisture. My household plants went from needing water every day when the wood stove was going to being back on their normal watering schedule.

Do not buy

The lid has some kind of rubber coating. Our house smells like burnt rubber after first use. This thing is awful.

No, I do not recommend this product.
