Q: Several people have asked if you can use pellets. In the older questions it is said to not use pellets but in the recent questions it says youc can use wood chips or pellets. So which is it?!

1 Answer
  • A: According to the product manual the is considered to be a "wood pellet appliance". However, all other product information refer to the use of the "wood chip tray", as the manufacturer recommends using wood chips, not wood chunks, as wood chips are smaller and easier to fit inside the wood chip tray.

Highly Recommend to Stay AWAY

This smoker is absolutely awful. Cannot get above 230 in normal weather conditions NOT 325 as advertised. The door leaked smoke and the thermostat does not work. But the WORST part is the lack of temperature control. Impossible to keep a consistent temperature. Very dissappointed. Thank you Tractor Supply for the easy return.

Will not heat higher than 200 degrees

I purchased this smoker about 18 months ago and have used it roughly 10 times with less than satisfactory results. The smoker is sturdy and seems to adequately seal in heat. However, it will not heat up past 200 degrees making smoking some items like chicken virtually impossible and unsafe. My attempts to exceed 200 degrees have been when the outside temperature was as low as 35 degrees Fahrenheit and as high as 95 degrees Fahrenheit I contacted Pit Boss and they sent a new heating element which I was certain was not the problem. I was correct as after the new element was installed there was no difference in performance. The units temperature control cuts off the element as soon as the thermometer reaches 200 degrees. I will be reaching out to Pit Boss once again to see if there are additional parts that they are willing to send me under warranty. Bottom line is a smoker that will not exceed 200 degrees is not an efficient or safe smoker.
