Cheap plastic won't last.

They changed the frame from aluminum where the flaps mount to all plastic. They are extremely light and flimsy where the flaps attach so now the flaps break off, especially in cold weather. This is the first all plastic one we've used and it lasted 2 months. The previous design at least lasted a couple years. It's also nice that we have a hole in our wall that only this specific door will fit.

No, I do not recommend this product.

We're sorry to see that your door has been damaged! It is important to mention that the change to a full plastic frame was made for greater overall longevity of these doors, particularly in the cold. Though the prior frame was metal where the flap attached, this was set into a plastic frame, as plastic is a more insulating material and helps prevent temperature transfer to your home. Particularly in very cold temperatures, the strain of the metal portion on the plastic frame could cause damage to the door, so the change to a full plastic frame was made to remove this source of strain but keep the insulation benefits. We're so sorry for any misunderstanding. Though less likely, it is still possible for the frame to become damaged during extreme cold- typically at temperatures lower than -18 F, or consistently lower than -9 F over an extended period of time. At times of very extreme temperatures, it may help to temporarily restrict access to the door. We would love to see how we can help with your current door. Needs Aluminum version

Bought this about 2 months ago and it installed super easy, was happy about that. I have a 100 pound German Shepard and he fits in it really easy. He loves the ease of access it gives him between the yard and the house. The downside is that the "Durable Plastic" Is not very durable, Due to the design of my house if he is in a hurry to get in or out, instead of going straight through it he will go in at an angle, This causes him to push against the left side of the inside frame. Him doing this repetitively has caused the shutter track to break away. I figure its got about a month before it snaps off completely. If there was an aluminum one of this, I'd replace it with that, but there does not seem to be. I see the Wall entry pet door wall extension page mentions a "Wall Entry Aluminum Pet Door". Did that get a name change? And would it work with the Extreme version with the extra insulating flap if so? Feels like Petsmart could get more sales if their page was up to date and had a compatibility matrix.

No, I do not recommend this product.

We appreciate you taking the time to share these concerns with us! We're sorry to hear that your door has been damaged, but we certainly want to see what we can do to help. In case this information is helpful, this updated version of this door was changed to be comprised fully of durable plastic to provide greater longevity. This is because with the old version, the metal components of the frame were stiff and inflexible over time in ways that made damage to the points of connection between the plastic and metal components more likely. The new frame provides greater longevity as it is both sturdy and able to shift over time without damage to the frame. We're so sorry for any misunderstanding. It's possible using the steps on page 9 of your manual to install support for the tunnel of this door may help prevent these issues from recurring in the future with your door. We'd love to speak with you about this directly to see how we can help, and if this may provide a solution. Please get in touch with our live support team here- https://support.petsafe.net/contact-us/ Our phone hours are Monday through Friday 8 A.M.- 7 P.M. EST, and our chat hours are Monday through Friday 9 A.M. – 9 P.M. EST.
