Q: Why does TSC call this a MIG welder when the Forney brochure and owners manuals on the app all call it a FluxCore Welder?? Does it have the capabikity to add a tank, regulator and Metalic Inert Gas nozzle on the gun?

Q: What does MIG stand for if it doesn't use gas?

1 Answer
  • A: Metal Inert Gas (MIG) is also known as gas metal arc welding (GMAW). This type of welding is basically an arc welding process that joins two metals. This is done by heating the metals with the help of an arc. This arc is formed between the surface to be welled and a continuously fed filler electrode. This type of welding uses a shielding gas to protect the molten pool of weld metal from reacting with elements present in the atmosphere. This MIG Wire is actually “Self Shielding”. Self Shielding MIG Wire is a tube of metal with a flux core. As the welding arc melts the wire it also burns the flux, this produces a gas shield around the welding process.

Ok welder

It did surprisingly well for a 110v welder. But we fought with the feed speed and wire tension. Overall did good. But i wish i would have paid a little more and bought the harbor freight welder when it was on sale that does tig and wire and stick. This is just wire.

Forney 140 great welder

I purchased this welder back in 2021. I have used this for all my hobby welding and found no problems to report. I did add a dedicated plug just for this welder. I installed a 30amp breaker with 10-gauge wire running to a 20-amp plug. At times I have used a 15 FT 10-Gauge 20-amp extension cord to plug in this welder without any noticeable issues. I recommend this welder for anyone who needs a welder for their weekend or hobby welding. It does work as advertised using Hobart .030 Flux Core wire.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Pretty Good Welder for Small Projects.

For what it is it does a very nice job. Just got it to build some stall fronts. I needed something that could work off limited power supply without having to take the stall fronts off site to use the other welder.

Buy with confidence

I bought one a few years ago to have at home so I didn’t have to bring my projects or broken equipment to work. I was not expecting much being a 120 volt machine but this little machine has impressed me so much. I have repaired and made countless items. It has plenty of power for most home owners and good wire feed.

This welder is a Very good addition to anyone's garage. It handel's all the tasks Forney claims as well or Better than what they say which is a rare thing to get what you pay for in this day and age. Nice welder no question about it. I Strongly suggest that anyone thinking of or needing a light duty welder to pull the trigger on this purchase.

Flux core beast!

THIS THING IS MIGHTY. I was suspicious at first getting this thing for Christmas, but after putting this thing to work my doubts were shattered. I've used this thing on multiple Jeep and Chevy repairs and upgrades, even a stripped caliper bolt on a Volvo. I have put this welder to work for 2 years with no issues!!! Looking at the price this thing is still a steal years after getting mine! Now I'm ready for a gas machine- but this will remain on the welding cart for the versatility and ability to hook up practically anywhere.

Works pretty well for some basic welding. Just needed to weld some things on my gate. Took a few tries to get the voltage and feed rate dialed in, but worked great after that.
