Q: Is this safe to feed to alpacas, if not can you recommend a mineral supplement ?

1 Answer
  • A: No, the DuMOR Goat Mineral Block is not safe to feed to alpacas because it likely contains levels of copper that are toxic to alpacas. Alpacas are highly sensitive to copper, similar to sheep, and excessive intake can cause severe poisoning and liver damage To ensure the health and safety of your alpacas, use mineral supplements specifically designed for llamas and alpacas or plain sheep minerals, and keep goat-specific products out of their reach

Q: Is this safe for my neutered male goats? I was told never to feed them grain, especially corn, for health reasons.

1 Answer
  • A: Yes, the block is safe for wethers (neutered ram/goat). I’m assuming his concern with feeding grain is the risk of urinary calculi, which is ultimately stones caused by excessive amounts of phosphorus or calcium… this can happen with too much grain and poor management. Ideally you want a Calcium to Phos ratio of at least 2:1 to help avoid the risk of urinary stones. This block exceeds that and is safe to feed.
