1 - 10 of 90 Questions

Q: Can this be safely added to wild birdseed to rid it of crawling ants? Is it safe for wildlife consumption?

1 Answer
  • A: Thank you for your question. Red Lake Earth Diatomaceous Earth with Calcium Bentonite is labeled for use with livestock and as a feed additive. It is not specifically labeled for treating wild birdseed or controlling ants in bird feeders. For wildlife applications, we recommend using products according to the label directions and avoiding adding products to feed unless the label specifically approves that use.

  • A: Howdy neighbor! Red Lake Earth Diatomaceous Earth is completely safe to add to your cat's diet, as it is a high-quality, food-grade blend that is non-toxic to household pets. To feed it safely, you should only mix up to 1 teaspoon per day for an adult cat and always stir the powder thoroughly into wet canned food so they don't accidentally inhale the dry dust.

Q: What purpose does the added calcium bentonite serve that can not be achieved from using just DE by itself? The added CB does not effect the efficacy of the DE by acting as a sort of "cutter", making it weaker, does it?

1 Answer
  • A: The added calcium bentonite (a natural clay) in Red Lake Earth acts like a chemical magnet and sponge, whereas standard Diatomaceous Earth (DE) works mostly like a physical scraper.

Most Helpful Favorable Review

Multiple uses besides farm animals!!

This DE, along with other necessary proceedures, was 100% successful eliminating BEDBUG problem. This DE is same color as my carpeting so it doesn't show when left undisturbed a long time, making it most effective. This DE is MUCH cheaper than the white DE sold in smaller quantities for this purpose elsewhere., and is superior in quality.

Flea control

I did a lot of reading on DE before buying to kill fleas in carpet and on pets. I used this twice in the last week on pets and carpets, I have not seen any results. Followed directions but still infested with fleas. Not sure why it didn't work.
