  • A: Hello, thank you for your question. Manna Pro MP Hen Healer Ointment is primarily a protective and soothing barrier for minor cuts, scrapes, and abrasions on chickens. It helps prevent infections by keeping wounds clean and covered, but it is not an antibiotic and cannot cure an active bacterial infection on its own. If a wound is already infected, the bird may require a veterinarian-prescribed treatment, and the ointment can then be used as a supplement to protect and support healing. It

Q: Can this be used to treat deeper gashes similar to hawk or cat attack injuries? Is this product safe for quail?

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, thank you for your question. It is meant for minor cuts and scrapes and is not sufficient to treat deep gashes from hawk or cat attacks, which require thorough cleaning and often veterinary care or antibiotics. The ointment can be used after proper treatment to protect the wound and support healing. It is generally safe for quail, but should be applied sparingly to prevent ingestion or excessive pecking.

Q: In the overview of your product it says that your special formula helps to prevent pecking. I am asking how it does this. Please don't send me another copy of your product description again like I don't know how to read.

  • A: Hello. The blue coloring in the ointment covers up any blood or red coloring that would be in the wound which is one thing that drives chickens to continue to peck on them. That helps prevent the pecking, and the other ingredients help heal the wound.

Healer and Deterrent!

One of my hens in my flock was bullying the other chickens, and plucking out all of their feathers. I separated her from the flock, and started applying the hen healer ointment to my hens with feather loss. It prevented them from pecking at the area, and the other girls from pecking at each other. They do not like the taste of it! They got one taste, did a little flinch and a shimmy, then started trying to wipe their beaks off in the dirt. Safe to say that they wouldn’t be pecking there again! I like that it’s blue rather than clear, because you can see the cream to make sure it’s fully on the area. The blue deters them from going for the red. On top of that, it helps heel the irritated skin, along with being a pecking deterrent.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Hen Healer

My hen got a pecking wound. Off the advice of others with chickens and my own research, I found this was the “best” salve/ointment to use. This was almost like silly putty. I could not get it off my gloves and onto my chicken. Once I got it on her, it wouldn’t stick. I made sure the wound was clean and dry before I tried it. It would just stick to me! I’m sorry I wasted my money on this!

No, I do not recommend this product.
