With a noise level of 74 dBA from 23 feet, which is a bit louder than a vacuum, this machine features Cold Start Technology to ensure a quick start in cold weather. The Volt Guard built-in surge protector prevents overloads and keeps your equipment safe from spikes in voltage, while the Intelligauge monitors voltage, frequency and operating hours. Q: I live at 4960 ft elevation. Will this generator function on gas and propane at this elevation? I am talking about the 100231 dual fuel generator.

- A: The generator can operate at that elevation. Just be aware that for every 1000 feet above sea level, the generator will lose 3.5% of power. For operation on gasoline, the carburetor will need an altitude jet installed. On propane, not such jet installation is required since propane does not utilize the carburetor. - A: This generator will put out the standard THD rating of about 12%-20% depending on load applied. They will produce a sine wave, not a modified or square wave. This is perfectly acceptable for running common commodities found in your home such as TVs, computers, your appliances, etc. THD is a measure of the deviation of a sine wave from a "pure" sine wave. All electricity, including line electricity, has measurable THD. If you have a specific item that requires less than 5% THD such as a UPS style battery backup, a pellet stove or high efficiency furnace control board, we recommend purchasing a Champion Inverter Generator (sizes from 1600W to 3500W); Champion Open Frame Inverters (sizes from 3500W to 8750W); or a Champion Home Standby Generator (range from 8.5KW to 14KW); all units provide a less than 5% THD. Q: Can this generator be converted to natural gas?

- A: Unfortunately, this machine will not run on natural gas. It is designed to run on propane or gasoline only. We cannot recommend or encourage the modification of the generator in this fashion as it will void your emissions warranty. We have been advised by environmental agencies that unless we have certified the emissions after conversion with them, we can no longer make the recommendation. The conversion company will have this responsibility. We are very sorry as we understand how common of a request this is.
