What a lousy product!

This was the worst "some assembly required" experience of my adult life. I am a good reader of marketing information and assembly directions, but neither helped in this purchase. The marketing information said it was a 40 inch lawn aerator. What it didn't say was that this dimension is the width of the tray. The actual outside dimension of the wheels was 51 inches. This is important because I wanted to know if it would fit through a couple gates I have on the property. Who cares what the width of the tray is? Not a good job describing the product in the marketing material. The assembly took me two days...really. All the instructions were wrong, incomplete, misleading. The length of the spacers on the main shaft didn't match the lengths in the manual. I tried several ways to assemble the shaft components. What I ended up doing was to assemble the tray and the end caps on the shaft and then measure which of the spacers had to go where. I measured each spacer and marked its length on it with a marking pen. The tray and center support determined the assembly configuration. I finally got a configuration that worked. Then I found that the wheels did not elevate high enough in the tow mode for the tines to clear the ground underneath. In the up position, it was short by about two inches. I determined that the hole in the center of the shaft that attached the wheel position actuator was likely drilled at an angle that wouldn't allow the wheels to lower as far as required. There were some parts missing in the kit, a few extras, and the measurements of the bolts were not the same as the manual said they should be. Operating the machine produced less than desired results. Each plug remover blade is actually a U shape and I don't think they were sharpened at all at the factory. I added more than 40 lbs of weight to the tray, and the unit did not remove any grass plugs. Now it appears I will have to sharpen each blade and maybe add more weight to this already 95 lb monster ( not including the weights in the tray). Before I bought this product, I tried to read actual reviews on the Tractor Supply website for it, but while the average star rating was shown for most products, you can't read the reviews. I consider this a disservice to customers. My experience with this product was unsatisfactory in all respects. I would never buy one again.

Units seems solid but instruction manual is a fail

the unit is solid, but the instructions were difficult and apparently covered a similar model with different components. Also, the hardware guide was puzzling and the installation instructions for insert spacers was most confusing as certain ones were an integral piece of the spoked units and was not reflected in the included instructions.

Works great. Instructions suck, use last page exploded view to assemble. I used stronger bolts to attach wheels and lift mechanism.
