Q&As

Q: For solenoid item # 236774 is the "s" terminal internally powered? (ie Grounded base or ground activated such that it can be used with a Ford 800 tractor with a neutral transmition safety start button?

1 Answer
  • A: No, the "S" terminal on CountyLine item #236774 is not internally powered; instead, it is an automotive-style solenoid where the internal activation coil is grounded through the metal mounting base. Because it expects 12V positive power to be supplied to the "S" terminal to activate, you cannot use it directly with a stock Ford 800 transmission-top neutral safety start button, which functions by providing a path to ground. If you attempt to use this solenoid with your factory setup, pushing the transmission button will result in a ground-to-ground dead end, and the tractor will not crank

Q: Which solenoid do I need for a Massey Ferguson to-30? I think it’s a 1951 and has been converted to 12v. Thanks

1 Answer
  • A: Originally the TO30 did not come with a solenoid. They require heavy duty starter switch. TSC does offer that switch as Sku# 2301054. If modifications were made and there is an actual solenoid, we would need further information; 3 or 4 post solenoid? Saddle or flat mount? Etc.

Grounded through base

Note that this unit seems to be grounded through the base. If you need one that is not for an older tractor do not buy this unit. If the description on the box or website had said that I would not have purchased this unit. I’m sure it would be fine for some other application

worked fine, just ordered the wrong one.

worked great, but make sure you get the correct solenoid for your tractor. This will not work on an older (pre-1965) ford 2000 or 2n/8n/9n. This solenoid uses +12v switched power to energize the starter. Worked great

Yes, I recommend this product.
