Q: To be clear, I was wondering how to set up food and water within the Snap Lock Coop while still leaving room for the hens.

1 Answer
  • A: Hi BarbVT, Our apologies. Here is the response we received back from the vendor- "The Snap Lock Coops are not set up to have the food and water on the inside. Putting food inside the coop can attract predators. If the purchase a Snap Lock stand for the coop there is a hook on the underside of the stand that is for hanging food or water."

Best coop on market

This is THE BEST chicken coop for Residential Poultry Farmers on the market. It’s made like children’s plastic outdoor toys that last 20 years after your child leaves for school & looks like children’s play toy or a deck box. There chicken capacity is low for this one & 20 full size layers in this one is not crowded @ night. 30 full size layers is comfy cozy warm @ night and in a pinch it will hold 40 cause they sleep on floor & perches. I bought it because it weighs 65 pounds & I was anticipating a move. It’s what I call a “Geidi Prime” product, which means that I windexed & wiped down all surfaces while putting it together…ya no…cause no one knows how old these are being plastic & potentially lasting 1000 years in a landfill. Mine is rain & storm proof & they all did fine w/o a pen in a walled backyard and sleeping in this one @ night. It’s one draw back is the door opening is big & not good for Automatic door opening. Best solution to that is a pen around it with the automatic door on the pen. I just left the door open on mine @ night. Once snapped together, it comes apart into two pieces if you need to move it & 1 person can move the top & two people the bottom right into your pickup truck with chickens inside. But…you’ll stop on your move @ a hotel & someone will steal your awesome coop & all your fine breed chickens like they did my original one & chickens. & if you strap it to your pickup then they will steal your pickup, coop & chickens. So, if you want to travel with chickens put this one in your moving truck & don’t let anyone around see you feed & water those chickens! Moving? 25-30 capacity with a short 2-3 day drive. The other advantage of this one especially outside is that it’s an easy spray down clean w/the waterhose & a little brush scrub with dish soap & rinse & bright, shiny & new. I put combination locks on all the possible opening except the front door. Snap lock gives you those climber connectors. I added a 20 foot steel cable with lock & ran it around a big tree & through the base to make sure it didn’t get easily stolen in my semi-urban area. My lone problem with the locks is that they rusted after a couple of years outside. But ya know you can screw the hinge off in a pinch. Outside, you’re looking @ a 10 to 20 year longevity in use as a Coop versus a wood one with a 5-year longevity in use. It also works for basement or barn coops which I actually did during COVID-19 quarantines. Get it if you can afford it & want more than 10 chickens. & use windex on it to wipe off any dust.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Not predator proof. Ask me how I know. I even reinforced it to try to add protection to it...and it still got torn open.

Phenomenal! After all this time!

Didn’t need instructions as putting together was intuitive. It took me about 45 mins from unpacking to completion. It does help to look at some you-tube videos to get a good idea of setup. Have had this for over a year and will say this is a phenomenal investment for the girls! To start with, it hasn’t warped, it is to a degree insulated ( my girls were comfy at 8 to 20 degrees temps. Weather proof, doesn’t move anywhere on extreme windy days (about 60lbs), Incredibly easy to clean. I have 6 mid sized hens and can easily hold two more, don’t think it would comfortably hold ten though. Very secure locks, predator proof, and great ventilation. I expect this will last for a few years with proper maintenance. A few little snippets though, I found using gorilla tape along the corners and where the egg boxes join reduces cold drafts in the winter. If it is hot outside in the summer sun you possibly could cook your chickens due to the insulating plastic composite like material, recommend partial shade from a big tree. For the money, it is WORTH it. Plenty of room and roosting for them!

Yes, I recommend this product.
