I use both the spray paint/rattle can version of this primer and the 1Gal size which I thin and run through a HVLP spray gun. I refurbish industrial equipment (forklift, pallet jacks, packaging machines, etc...) and I use this primer every single time. The rattle can version goes on better than anything out of a shaker deserves to... If the project I'm doing can be completed in 2 or less cans I opt for it over breaking out the spray gun. No mess to clean up, less drop clothes/clothing protection necessary... but it should tell you something about how great this works! I spray a first coat from 6-ish inches away, broad strokes. My goal is to lightly mist the piece of equipment completely. On the second coat I go in heavy and make sure I have full coverage. I've found this method works to prevent runs (though this primer tends to not run unless you go nuts). Two solid coats (wait 30min or so between, depending on temp. Check for tack with the back of your hand to avoid fingerprints). I wait 45min-1hr before starting final coat, I want to make sure the primer is fully tacked so I don't get mixing/inconsistencies. 3-5 coats of top coat enamel (Kubota Orange implement paint is a favorite of mine, when I'm not painting the factory color) and you'll end up with a very nice looking and durable finish. I HATE sanding, with this setup I never sand and always end up with a very nice finish at the end. One thing to keep in mind when panting farm/industrial equipment is that while it's true you get out what you put in... perfect is also the enemy of good. Bottom line: after using this hundreds of times over several years it's safe to say I REALLY like this primer. I'd never use anything else in my application.
