Q: How much Fenbendazole? Never stated how much. Safeguard has 2.27 grams/lb. How many cows at 1000lbs do we feed in a 50lb bag?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Ranch, According to the vendor: You would feed 4 lbs of Safe-Guard Dewormer cattle cubes per 1000 lbs of body weight. In a 50 lbs bag that is 12.5 servings. DIRECTIONS DOSAGE: 5 MG. FENBENDAZOLE PER KG BODY WEIGHT IN A ONE (1) DAY TREATMENT (2.27 MG. FENBENDAZOLE PER POUND). EXAMPLE OF MIXING AND FEEDING RATE: FOR A ONE (1) DAY TREATMENT, ADD THE PURINA SAFE-GUARD CATTLE CUBE DEWORMER 4 (MEDICATED) TO THE DAILY RATION AT THE RATE OF 4.0 POUNDS FOR EACH 1,000 POUNDS OF BODY WEIGHT. FEED BY SPREADING EVENLY ON THE GROUND OR PLACE IN TROUGHS WITH ADEQUATE SPACE FOR ALL CATTLE TO CONSUME RATION WITH EQUAL OPPORTUNITY. FEED FOR ONE (1) DAY. NO PRIOR WITHDRAWAL OF FEED OR WATER IS NECESSARY. WHEN FEED CONTAINING FENBENDAZOLE HAS BEEN FED FOR 1 DAY AND BLENDED ACCORDING TO THE ABOVE RATES, BASED ON WEIGHT AND NUMBER OF CATTLE TREATED, A TOTAL INTAKE OF 2.27 MG. FENBENDAZOLE PER POUND OF BODY WEIGHT IS ASSURED. UNDER CONDITIONS OF CONTINUED EXPOSURE TO PARASITES, RETREATMENT MAY BE NEEDED AFTER 4-6 WEEKS.

Q: Is this product safe for nursing mother cows? Would it be harmful to the calf?  Will this product help repel flies? If not, is there a feed that does?

1 Answer
  • A: Safe-Guard is safe for nursing cows. The product is not harmful to the nursing calf. However, if the calf is going to be used for veal, it should not be used. It can be used on dairy cattle., as the milk discard time is zero hours. It does not repel flies. We do not have a product on the market that repels flies. We have mineral and other products that contain Altosid, which helps control horn fly populations (not totally eradicate them) by stopping the development of adult flies in cattle manure.
